When heading down to Red River Gourge this weekend my exaust cracked off at the down pipe. Apparently the previous owner had it welded just below the flange that mounts to the manifold. I think they used the wrong kind of wire and it didn't adhere. Meanwhile the EFI light was on. I tried to start the car a day later. It seems as if it is flooding its self out. So we patched the break temporarily to get it home. This did not correct the problem. The EFI light is still on and the car won't start due to flooding. How do I reset the ECU? Will this fix the problem? Its an 87 classic. Any suggestions would be great. I need to make the two hours trip to the location where I left it ASAP and try to get it home. |

i doubt the exhaust crack was the root of the problem, maybe just a coincidence. the car not starting do to flooding or due to no spark, to ignite? id check you rotor arm and ignition coil. if you have a manual. run thru the diagnostic tests. check for a spark plug wire thats loose and things like that. my truck has a similar crack as yours and runs. rd

Try to reset the Ecu by disconnecting the battery.

Its definately just an exaust issue. It is totally cracked off, so no exhaust is getting to the o2 sensor. We patched the crack, it ran temporarily until the patch burned off. I think I'll just tow it home and weld it in my garage. |

see this is odd to me because the car should run normally rich until the o2 warms up and starts giving readings. but you say the car wont start. now you put tape on the crack and it starts, but this does nothing for the o2 sensor. a few minutes later it might but the car should always start is my point. not to gouge you but i suspect you have other electrical issues that will keep poping up after the exhaust fix. rob |
