I was lubing up my D2 last night for the first time by myself. I know that the double cardon whatever U-js are not "serviceable" but the rear front uj and driveshaft have fittings and so does the front uj near the front axle. My question is does the front driveshaft have a fitting like the rear because I noticed that the front driveshaft has a small whole there near the cone like thing that fills up with grease like the rear? Am I missing something here and where could I get another fitting? How would I put it on? Thanks for the help!!! |

I just went through this too Pete. The D2 has a plug on the front drive shaft. If I remember correctly it uses an 8mm hex key / allen wrench to remove the plug, and a 1/4 inch grease fitting will thread into it for filling. I think the tread count was 1/4" 28 thread. Once full, remove the fitting and put the plug back in. I got my fittings at Napa. |

Actually, thinking about it, it may have been an 1/8 inch hex key / allen wrench, and not 8 mm. Sorry. gp |

Thanks Greg! So I have to remove the plug and screw the grease fitting on. Can I leave it on and whats happens if you don't screw it on tight and is stuck on the gun. Why you ask? I have a old nozzle that my dad had and this happened to him on his Chevy. We were never able to get it off. hahaha |

Well, don't know what to tell you if the gun get's stuck on the grease nipple. Maybe it's time to invest in a new grease gun? But, yes to your first part. Remove the plug, screw in a grease nipple, fill with grease, remove grease nipple, and reinsert the plug. I think the reason for the plug is that the nipple will get knocked off during articulation as the shaft will come in contact with something and break the nipple.
