I have just noticed now that when I fill my gas tank up my fuel guage only goes to 3/4s, (there are no dents in my tank). What could cause this? |

My gas tank tend to this too. They get air inside for some reason thus preventing you from filling it up. I get this from time to time and it's most noticable when I'm driving it around with the warning light screaming at me before getting gas. Usually, I fill it til it stops and drive it around for a couple of miles and fill it again, that normally does the trick for me. I believe this has been covered in the archives as well and you'll find a lot more info there. Goodluck! Glenn |

Wow! You guys have a low fuel warning light? Must be nice. Next I suppose you're going to say you get more than 200 miles to a fillup. Oh whoops! I thought I was in the D90 section. My bad. ~Art Vigil |

Carl, it's your fuel sending unit. There was a recall on it. Take the truck to the dealer and they'll replace it. Jason |

I just replaced my fuel pump. It was an easy 45 minute job. Yet Now with my new fuel pump, when I top off the tank, it doesnt even get to the full line on the gauge. Seems kind of weird, but it doesnt bug me. |

Carl, For the D2 it could be the sending unit. However, someone else posted about a LR Bulletin regarding fueling issues on another thread. Since your D2 is an '01, the dealer should take care of you. Paul '00 Pig |

Would a fault with the fuel sending unit show up during the 60,000 service checkup? |

Also, I still get 16 miles to the gallon and the truck runs alright. The only thing is that I can only get about 18 gallons in the tank when I top off. (The tank is supossed to hold over 20 gallons). It seems that I am only getting 3/4s the amount of gas in my tank. Could that be fuel sending unit? |

Carl, The FSU could be giving you an erroneous reading via the gauge. Meaning that when the red light comes on, you still have 7 gallons in the tank (or whatever). When you go in for your 60K, just tell them about your problem. It's either the FSU, the gauge or the tank. I thought D2's have a 25 gallon tank??? |

Paul it does. I just looked it up. It is 24.9 gallon tank. Sorry about the mistake. |

I just had my 60k done 2 weeks ago. I had the same problem, they checked the FSU and replaced it. No more problem. |

I just got my 60k mile done about a month ago and did not even think to ask them about the gas gauge. To make a long story short the gas guage was acting up at the 60k mile service but I did not ask them about it. Would they have been about to detect it then without me telling them. Also could this problem affect my truck's preformance if left not fixed? |

"Also could this problem affect my truck's preformance if left not fixed?" No. Well Maybe. You can roll the dice with the red light on thinking "Oh I am good for another XX amount of miles." Then when you run out of gas, your performance is greatly affected.

And no, they wouldn't have been able to detect it without checking it specifically. |

What does the Fuel sending Unit do? If it fails will my car be able to still run, (when there is gas in the tank)? I am calling the dealership to have them fix it. It just may take a week or two. I just don't want to be stuck on the road. |
