I just ordered a set of these from Pangea Expeditions. I've never seen anyone else using these. I figure they should solve my hood flapping in the wind problems. At $25 you cant beat it.

I'm thinking about it, man that one time my hood cable broke was a pain in the ass....

Here's a direct link for anyone else who had a hard time finding them:

Has everyone found them? On that link I provided you have to click on pangaea and then its the first item that comes up.
I dont know about everyone else but on my 98 DI if I do 80mph the corners of my hood are flapping like crazy. Looks like the hood could come up any time. I bet these will fix it.
And besides, they look cool, makes the disco look like a race car! If we cant do 180mph in these pigs might as well make them look like we could. Right?
Hehehehe

They seem like a great idea, but if all you have is the pins holding your hood down, it makes it really easy for somebody to get into your engine compartment. Just some food for thought....

The more I look the more I'm thinking about 'just doing it'. I told Will on IM but I'll let the rest of you know, if I do go for it I will attach a cable to the underside of the hood and run it down to the back/inside of my bumper where I will padlock it to an eyelet I weld on there. Hopefully that will keep the pesky vandals away.

Now all you need is one of these:

Got the bling factor AND it's aerodynamic to boot. Looks fast just sitting there.

Bring on them hotties!

I'm about to install them on my truck. Mainly due to the cable potentially breaking. If someone else does the install before me take pics of where you placed them so we don't all have to re-invent the wheel!

BTW, I have thought about the security issue, I'll get over it.

I don't see why they won't work in conjunction with the hood latch, but then maby I'm missing something.

Unlatch the pins, and then unlatch the uuhhh.. hood latch.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Kennith

As much as I bang this thing around I probably need them. :-)

The point is to eliminate the need for the hood latch which has a habit of deciding it doesn't want to un-latch anymore, usually at the worst times (like when you need to re-set your inertia sensor).

Makes sense,

I figured I'd put them on just so I won't break the hood latch. I can see that happening. I just got back from wheeling and managed to break BOTH of my headlamp washers. I don't know how, maby it was vandalism before the trip. I didn't do my usual bodywork check before I went this time.

The funny thing is it's usually not bad spotting or driving, just some unavoidable accident (like that incident with the angle iron bolted to a tree behind the bush) that rears it's ugly head.

Cheers,

Kennith

Ha ha, well aparantly I got a little too excited. I didn't realize those things are 'height adjustable' so basically any pins from a speed shop will do (thanks Thom), what can I say I've never been a ricer... Oh well I might still pick these up becasue I have gotten a confirmed report of this variety being on a truck for 9 years w/ no rust.

I have used hood pins in the past on hot rods and drag cars. The locking ones are cool until someone decides they need to put loctite in the locking mechanism, then you have a terrible job ahead of you.

I have also used the chain around something under the hood, but found it easiest and most effective to just put small pad locks on the hood pins themselves-yes, they can be cut easily, but locks only keep honest people out of your stuff.

Here's the same hood pins mounted on a D90, I've seen these in person and they look very well made. FWIW.

i put these one last sept.. they are simply.. awesome..

and about the security issue.. it scared the shit out of the gas station attendant checking my oil when he unclipped them and lifted the hood making the alarm go off..

Im assuming that was only cause the truck was locked though.. dunno for sure..

I've had the Hood pins from Susquehanna sports for over a year now. They're great, for a while I would worry but not any more, I figured since I have Limb Risers someone would have to turn the turnbuckles on both sides, then unclip the hoodpins, then open the hood, and look around, and if they want anything, they'll have to have some tools, everything in there is bolted down. Not to mention the Hood Alarm all the way up on the firewall edge. All in all a great investment. I even removed the hood latch system. only the safety catch is still inplace just incase both hood pins fail ( impossible) the hood doesn't fly up.
