hey guys, the serpentine belt on my D1 neeeds replaced and i'd like to do it myself. has anyone here replaced a belt? does LR use a special tensioning device that would make the job a pain or impossible? i can replace the one on my Jeep in no time, and i was hoping this would be just as easy. |

Remove the shroud. Get out an appropriate socket (I don't remember the size off the top of my head), wrench and a cheater bar. There is a tensioner pulley, that you put the socket wrench on, and you can take the slack off the belt fairly easy. Wiggle the old belt out, and the new belt to close into place. Then, to get it back on, you'll have to use the cheater bar because the new belt will be much more snug. Should be a 15-minute job, if you take your time. The tricky part is getting the routing right... search a few of the other threads here, and you'll find a pic of the routing diagram. There are other ways that you can put it on that will run, but not run well, and cause all sorts of problems... you need to triple-check that you get the routing exactly right. -L |

I'm a brand new owner of a 2000 SD and wanted to know people's take on the kind of gas to use. The dealer says premium, but some owners I've talked with say they rotate between premium and regular. Is that wise or nuts? Any thoughts? Thanks. And also thanks to this website for providing such a great education so far for me. Brad |

I'm a cheapskate, but I always run premium now.... I used to be a "mid-grade is good enough", but I really can tell the difference w/ my truck (a '99SD)... FWIW... -L |
