What the...???

$150 for registration??!! I realize we're all rich Toyota Range Rover latte-drinkin' high-brows, but really!

MAR, Uwharrie, et al, are like $25 or so..... I see $50 of it is for an off-road permit, which while steep IMHO, I can understand.... but an extra $100 on top of that???

I'd have liked to have come down and hung out, etc., but not at those rates.....

WOW! $50 per rider over the $150 for registration?

UWH cost me $47 this year because I am taking the Mrs. That is for the event and 2 dinners. Remember, swine if fine!

I went there with the Hummer Club two years ago. Four days included a dinner on the last day, door prizes and guided trail rides. $100.00 plus your lodging is all it cost. Of course a broken half shaft and a cut swamper on top of that.

It's too bad that it would cost you $200 for you and a buddy to attend.

It sounds to me that this is being promoted by someone that is trying to make a quick buck instead of someone who is promoting their love for the sport.

It just smells bad. You won't find me anywhere near that place.

O.K guys this event is promoted by Sports in the Rough! Bob Hazel, one of the top off-road event organizers in the US... I've been to several of his events everything goes perfect from the all you can eat meals to the HUGE raffles... He is also the organizer/promoter of ProRock rockcrawling. As for the entry fee, most non Rover events cost around $60 plus the $50 permit, so that's only about $40 higher than any non rover event. Its hard to find 3 all you can eat meals for $16 each.. As for the trails, the guys who picked trails for Camp Rover are picking the trails for this event....By the way Camp Rover was over $300 a truck, it comes down to don't bash someones event if you can't afford it.......RG

Who the hell is Bob Hazel?

What the hell is Sports in the Rough?

$16 a meal is 3x higher than it should be...

Why the heck do we care about non-Rover events costing $60, when the good Rover events cost ~$35? (Camp Rover was an over-priced blankety-blank, wouldn't have gone even if it was free.)

I usually don't bash things, but we're talking about an event in BFE Tennessee, not some swanky event held in the Hamptons.... it just doesn't merit the cost....

You are absolutley right Ray. I apologize for casting my opinion. I'll even do "Sports in the Rough" and Bob Hazel a service by not attending.

WTF??? Not a question of not being able to afford it there, pal...or Ray. It's common sense. Would you NOT pay $50 for a 6 pack of Natty Lite because you can't afford it?? Fuck no, you wouldn't fork over the cash because you can get a 6'er of premium beer for $5
And another thing, Non-Rover events costing $60. Seems to me that those with Non-Rovers are also lacking in common sense!

This is a public forum is it not? That's my opinion.

I say you guys need to stick with the dealership rides, where the trails are shitty, cheap (free), and you can afford the better beer because from the looks of "most" of your trucks you need to be at the mall and not on any trails..Once again that's my opinion....

Thats funny... The trails at Windrock are not diffrent than any other East Coast trails. You do have the Rattle Rock trail but I have rocks that big in my back yard, and I won't charge you 150.00 to come drive over them. Hell, I'll even let you drink some of my beer and let you sleep in my garage at no charge. If a club wants to put on an event and have the food and door prizes, etc... the a little money is ok, but this guy wants you to pay for his off-road experence? I could go to one of the Land Rover Driving schools and stay in nice Hotel if that is all I wanted. Most people on this board could care less about you cooking them food and giving away prizes. Most of the time the food taste like shit and the prizes won't fit your truck anyway. We want a good time with lots of fun, music and a drunk guy to laugh at through out the evening.

Thats my opinion....

LOL! This is great. That's another plus to the MAR, the Grocery Stores in that area keep plenty of Natty Lite, Old Backtalkee, and Shlitz on hand for us cheap bastards. :-)

I just noticed that Ray's profile does not exist. That sucks, I wanted to see his Bad Ass ride.

Damn the guy is up to two posts and once he answers this he will be up to 3. Leave the new kid alone, besides he probably has 24s on his during the week and steelies on the weekend. Actually it might be the kid with the yellow hummer everybody was picking on last week? Who knows who cares, see the eastcoasters at Uwharrie this weekend, and no I don't have a pic of my RR on my profile but after this weekend they will be added.

Damn you guys are brutal! I didn't expect this kind of bashing but hey, we are all entitled to voice our opinions.

Honestly, the event is costing more than I and other members of the club, Tennessee Rovers,
wanted... but we aren't the only ones involved with it and argued this specific point several times to try and get the price more "reasonable". Bottom line is the promoter doesn't know how many people will show so he has to cover his ass and we made a commitment to scout, prep, mark and lead the trails and we aren't going to walk out on that commitment. If turnout is poor then we get to do a lot of "I told you so" and if it is great then we can say "see, people will come so let's do it cheaper". Either way next year this event will be less expensive.

Now, all that aside, this event will a lot of fun for anyone who attends. Bob Hazel, Sports in the Rough, has been putting on 4x4 type events for a long time. Please check out his website - http://www.sportsintherough.com. I've heard he goes all out, the food is excellent and plentiful, and puts on a well organized and run event.

I understand the concerns for all who disagree with the cost and won't be attending but let's at least give the event itself a chance. For what it is worth we've received very positive feedback and inquiries from the website as well as others in the Land Rover community and they are all very supportive and excited to have another event to attend. Believe it or not I was told that someone actually said they thought the event was a bargain. So we have opinions at both ends of the spectrum which I guess is just the way it is, but perhaps we can hold off judgement until it is over.

Thanks,

Jay Hobbs

Jay,

That's a fair response.... I can entirely respect that. If Ray had posted something like that, it wouldn't have been bashed.

I suppose part of my gripe is that there's MAR in VA, Uwharrie in NC, Solaros in GA, all being Rover-club events. It'd be nice to have a Tennessee club do something, but have it along the same lines.... Maybe it's good that you're trying something different, but, I concur, see how it goes get your costs down for next year.

Hey Ray! FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!

Congratulations you fucking moron! You have posted here only 2 times and yet you have managed to insult many members with your "if you can't afford it" crap and with your "stick with the dealership ride" crap and with your mall rides crap. Just who the fuck do you think you are.

Many of themembers here are serious wheelers with serious rigs that attend serious events. If I were you, I would change your name at the event uless you want to be a Discoweb bitch the whole weekend.

Jay, You did a good job explaining the cost. If you want even greater sucess, I sugest that you curb Rays-the-spokesman's bullshit comments.

No need for insults, wheelin' should be fun and if possible free. Most Rover guys can deal that kind of dough but whats the point when u can hit park trails that cost you nothing and you can have a great time and still Fu*k ur Rover up :-) !!!!

Well, My kid has a week between the end of camp and the beginning of school, that happens to coincide with the Tennessee Adventure Rally.. $150 seems cheaper than a weekend at the beach or some other destination. I heard that the loal town has gone to the trouble of creating a trailhead in the middle of town, 15 miles to get to the property and you get their from "Main Street, USA".
I am proud of my rig, stand to benefit from a little exposure for my shop, and get to spend a week with my kid doing something I really enjoy by going to this event.
If anybody thinks I could post my thoughts and opinions of the event and still be able to let my kid read the responses, I would be willing to.
