I want to keep the air dam (I know...) but need front recovery points. Any options? I considered running a bridle through the air dam holes (brush guard holes) and then attaching to jates or other. Looking for feedback. Has anyone attempted such? I will eventually trim or get an ARB or other but for now, just looking for ideas.
Thanks all for everything

Years ago I did just that.you can put a jate ring about 2 feet back from the passenger side small hole, and run a strap from there...and watch your airdam come off at the first usage or my second attempt which was FAR better was to add a front end end receiver.

Any other thoughts? Has anyone fabricated an attachment that will allow to keep a stock look?

I ran a 6" long, 1/2" bolt through the unused steering box mounting hole and loop 12" of big chain through the bolt. Run your strap through the hole in the air dam.

Mine lasted several trips until I got an ARB bumper, yet I retained the chain tow point as it is sometimes nice to have there in addition to the two on the ARB (one of which got bent pulling bushes from in front of the house).

I still think that I could place 2 jates either in the same location but "around" the frame and mounting points for the brush bar. Attach a tree strap or bridle to each jate(run through the existing holes in the air dam for the brush bar), and then a tow strap to the bridle/tree strap from there. I think it COULD be safe. Anyone else do this?

On my wife's Disco, I've taken a pair of jates, and bolted them to the frame (same location where a brush-bar would have been bolted). When needed, I'll run a bridle through the openings in the air-dam. No problems so far, but, it's not been used much, either.... They're there so when they have to be used, they'll be available, but I don't know how well the airdam will like it if it was a real good stuck...

I'd take the airdam off, but, she won't let me... :-)

Do you think that I could incorporate a set of jates using the same holes for the brush bar while keeping the brush bar?

I had to spread the jates very slightly to even get them to slip onto the frame itself... they were snug. I suppose that if you had the right equipment, you could spread them out far enough to fit with the brush-bar on there, and then run longer bolts through both, but... I dunno if that would compromise the strength of the jate or not, being bent out like that....

Also, FWIW, I've angled the jates forward a bit, to make it easier to hook to through the holes in the airdam. The only problem now is, I've had the airdam get caught and held by one of the jates twice now... I need to angle it back down a hair to keep it from doing that... or not, and just worry about it when it does it.... :-)

Jack,

Have you thought about stock recovery points? I know they usually aren't the best but they do work. They do stick out there so that they are clear of the air dam so there won't be any damage to the plastic (at least from the recovery point).

FWIW...
