I was sitting in front of my truck, do not ask why? but i saw my headlight kind of come to life, not full power and it seemed to be the drivers only. the truck had been off all night. like a small surge of poer to the bulb, and then off again. it did it a couple of times. at first i thought of the stephen king movie christine, but i am a little lost on this one. can anyone help me figure it out? i am worried a short to the security system or something may be at fault...

Is your driveway or garage built on an old Native American burial ground?

Is it possible that anyone died on the production line at Solihull while your vehicle was being built?

:-)

If it did in fact glow; Suspect a ground problem. Any load with a poor ground can backfeed voltage through the bulb filament. As an example, remove the ground wire on a trailer harness. By turning on a turn signal, the bulb that should light will not be as bright as it should, because it will find a path to ground (to the negative battery terminal) through the running light bulbs. This voltage makes all the lights glow dimly (blink with the turn signal) showing the voltage is equally going through the bulb filaments to ground. Since the one headlight is fused alone (power wire not connected to other side) a poor ground somwhere could cause the voltage to go through that bulb to get to ground without lighting anything else. That headlamp may be allowing something else to get a ground through it. Make sure that headlamp ground isn't a connector that connects other grounds together and has come loose or corroded at the body connection. Remember DC voltage travels from neg. to positive, so you actually have the push of electrons (voltage) trying to get from anything connected to the negative battery post to the positive post. Not the other way around. I'd bet on a ground problem somewhere if not "self induced". Check ground straps from engine to frame and body to frame. No such thing as too many grounds. When you loose one, many times the voltage uses throttle cables, brake lines... even bulb filaments connected to a ground to work without even knowing it. You need to figure out what would be energized through a timed circuit or what may get a pulse through it while sitting when it happened. (the energizer coil in a relay could be a load with a poor ground) You may find another system not working right, so that may lead you to it. One thing for sure, it was too early in the evening to be the Easter Bunny.

thnaks to all, the humopur was good. but it really did that. a couple of times. i was in fact sort of rethinking my own sanity. i went did that bulb just do that. and sure enough i waited and it did it again. i then got a slight shiver up my spine and ran to the puter to ask fellow disco webbers. i think it is a grounding issue. i will check into it. i love my truck, but lose my faith in their electronics...thanks again especially paul for his advice! the rest of you can buy me a drink...
