I have a 95-Disco that suddenly stopped starting today. It has been very damp/humid/rainy the past several days. The truck was driven yesterday with no problems. Started the truck today with no problems went one block and truck died. No warning, no odd sounds, nothing. The engine turns over but doesn't start. I've got spark. Replaced fuel filter. Pulled spark plug to check for fuel, damp with gas. Still won't start....

Help...

I have a 95 that did the same thing, was running fine and then suddenly stopped. The engine just turns. I have spark and the fuel pressure read about 34-35 psi. Another thing I did was try to line the marks on my timing and with the number 1 piston all the way up I notice that the rotor is pointing toward number 2 on the cap instead of number 1. Could my distributor be bad.

Marlin, I just sorted out the same problem with my 95 Disco. When you pull the cap off these things you can easily pull off the springs which are under the black cover.( which says do not remove.) What happens is the little weights and plastic pieces get broken and your distributor will not be aligned properly in reguards to timing. You don't need a new distributor just a rebuild kit. Do not remove the lock down nut from the outside of the distributor(near bottom where it goes into the motor) you can rebuild it right in the car. remember to recheck your timing (6 degrees Before top dead center) If you can't do this yourself I've had luck in the past wandering into a Land Rover dealership and nicely offering say $50 to a mechanic if he would help me out. (You're going to be there for the rebuild kit) This usually works with the younger guys, they tend to be more willing. The same thing just happened to me, also the thing ran for a week after I intially canged the rotor and cap so it can take time for those little pieces to break and screw up your timing.

I called around and I found a use distributor for $177, the nearest dealership is over 200 miles away. The use distributor that I found is also located were the dealership is. Which is the best one to get. If the rebuild kit better is there a part store that carries them, this would save me from going all the way to the dealership.
