I recently had a great experience with a product made by Gunk entitled "ENGINE BRIGHT". $.97 cents at Wal-Mart. It is simply to spray on and hose off. I didn't really think the shit would work but it did. I sprayed it on, took corosion off the alternator, battery, and an assload of mud and grime off the engine. Went back to Wal-Mart and bought about 5 more bottles and cleaned everything to a perfect shine. Just thought i'd share the experience if you are looking to clean the engine a little.

Been using this stuff for years ... works well, though it turned some of the black rubber parts in my Honda to orange (grr)

I find the foamy kind easier to use ...

Works great but be careful with overspray on painted surfaces. It will also etch aluminium.

Simplegreen works well too and is less corrosive.

I've had good luck with Purple Power.
