Firstly please excuse my lack of technical jargon - took a Disco for a test drive today, and there was a nasty clonk each time I changed from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear - no matter how smoothly I tried to bring in the clutch, it seemed to clonk an awful lot!! The vendor said that this was something the car had always done - and it was doing it when he bought it 6 months ago. He had an AA inspection carried out, and no faults were picked up. BUT it was the most basic check looking at the paperwork. He was trying to tell me that all 4WD gearboxes do it, but I've driven similar cars which haven't clonked at all! Didn't do it on higher gear changes. No noises or whines from gearbox. Just felt like there was a lot of play or slack in the clutch before it was biting, then this clonk. Anyone know if it is gearbox trouble and how much it will cost to repair? |
