Please help.

I have a 95-Disco, and as some of you may have read it won't start. Here's what I know:

The truck was driven all last week with no problems.

After starting with no troubles on Saturday morning I went less than a block and it died. It would turn over (sounding normal) but nothing would catch. Pulled it back to the house and noticed that one of the covers for a Hella 550 lamp was melted. That afternoon I checked for spark on 2-different plugs and fuel pressure at the valve. Plugs sparked and gas sprayed. I had a new fuel filter on hand so I changed that out. No change in starting. When locking up the truck for the night I tried starting it one last time no luck, and it sounded slightly different this time.

Sunday morning I went out to try again. The battery was completely dead (it had been plenty strong the night before). Hooked up the charger. Both Hella 550's came on the switch was off. Disconnected the lights at the lamp and pulled associated fuses. Last weekend I removed some crapy looking lights from the rack the wires were stupidly left exposed. These lights were wired prior to my purchase of the truck. I looks like from the switch it goes to a relay then to the main fuse box in the engine bay, passenger side fender. It's wired through one of the accessory slots with an inline fuse. The other wiring coming off of the same area goes to the ignition coil. Could this have shorted the coil, could I get spark but not start with a bad coil?

Could a wire have touched the roof rack and shorted so meting out? If I have spark and fuel what else could be bad?

Thanks for the help. Sorry it’s so long...

Yes, you can still get a spark from a crook coil but it may not be strong enough to fire your fuel. Take the lead out of the distributor and hold it close to the engine block or other suitable earth and get someone to crank the motor over. You should see a strong spark if not, coil cactus. You have a bad short somewhere.
