I know I think they are pretty corny, but I am trying to make my Disco easier to park for the wife. I went on to e-bay to look at the kits there seem to be lot of the them out there. I was looking at the more expensive units, I want to get a some what good one(around $100 ) Has any one installed one of these units? Does it work good? Was it easy to install? Any feedbakc would be great.

LR has a genuine kit available. I like the way it works on the HSE Discoveries. Make sure to mount 2 of the sensors kind of near the corners. I have really enjoyed having the sensors to alert me to someone dashing behind the car. If you are around kids, they are wonderful.

Can I get away with only 2 sensor? I have a 98 LSE and I really don't want to drill through the metal bumpers. So I figured I would just install 2 sensors in the plastic bumper ends

I don't know. I think it would have a lot of "blind" spots. I think it would almost defeat the purpose. Four is really the ideal number, in my opinion. If I were doing it, I might have them mounted really low on the bumper so it would "see" curbs better.

WARNING......
If you use a Radar Detector.....rethink installing back-up sensors!!! I had a loaner from Alyssa (Hi!!!) an HSE with the B-US and it set my Valentine 1 radar detector off constantly!! Even with the switch off on the B-US.

Are you sure that was what was doing it? And why were you using a radar detector in our loaner.... speeding, were you??? :-)
Do you think it maybe had to do with the heated windscreen? That causes interference with EZ Pass.
Although I have to say that every time we lock and unlock the Discovery, the radar detector chirps. Ron didn't see a connection until I pointed it out, and now every time it does it, it flips him out.

A couple of things.

At the very least, mount two sensors on the bumper and mount them on the two bulged areas on the mumper peice for maximum area of sight. Corner ones are helpfull as well.

If you have a back step, the sensor must be mounted just over the middle line of the bumper to prevent it from being set off by the step.

Before you drill holes in your bumper, try to test them to make sure they don't get set off by accident in a location. Have someone hold them in the area, and them out of the way.

I remember an article about installing and aftermarket one in the Feb issue of Land Rover Enthusiast Magazine. I belive the article was titled "Looking Back"

you can only mount 2 if you want, I know ford products seem to only have 2, one on each corner, so i am sure it would work.

A Speeding Disco? Isn't that kind of like Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny?

Well the radar detector helps around where i live where the speed limit is like 30 and the cops are all over the place and will seriously give you a ticket for going 33mph! So it does help out in that regard....

Going back and forth between my '99 Disco II and the '03 Disco Loaner.....Radar Detector has no problem in mine with heated windshield (even works now right Ron?) and only in the loaner did it set off the detector...and because it's a Valentine 1 it has forward and rearward sensors...the rear sensor was the one going off constantly.

As to radar detectors being an East Coast thing...if thats so its only because we also have East Coast Police! If the NJ State Police don't scare you, then you aren't really alive!! They all have budget needs and at least half their operating funds come in from traffic violations, predominantly speeding. 'So what' you say? Well, car insurance ain't cheap out here, and when you get a ticket, your insurance rates go up, or worse, your coverage can be dropped.....so why a radar detector? My Disco II can and regularly does see 80-90mph....and thats just with the 4.0....you can imagine what the '03 loaner can do with the 4.6!!!!

Two things. How in the hell do you get your Disco to do 90 mph? Last, if get pulled over have a witty doughnut joke handy, us cops love doughnut jokes.

If your disco can't do 90 then it's probably a D1....LOL....mine has seen triple digits, just cuz I needed to know if it could, it's not regular practice....but 80 is not uncommon at all.

I have police friends, I know better then to use donut jokes, or police mans balls jokes too! I have found that divorce comraderie works REAL good though.
