I figure this is my next step while attempting to sell my '99 Series 1 Disco. Any insight? Good/bad?

Thanks,
Todd

No experience with selling cars on Ebay, but...

A couple of us have bought 99 Disco I's on Ebay. Take lots of pictures (like 20). Detail every option on that sucka.

Good luck. I think 12-18K is the huge range I've seen on 99's. Most of them are Disco II's and sell in the 16K range, I believe.

I've sold 2 vehicles on Ebay. Both times I got more than I wanted. 1997 Pathfinder got 1k over my payoff and 1984 FJ-60 got the buy it now feature 5 hours after listing it which was $500 more than I needed to get out of it.

My .02

I'm looking for $14,500 and believe I am priced right, especially for the Northwest.

Good point Todd. That's what has gotten me the high dollars is DETAIL and LOTS OF PICS!!!
People are lazy so if you don't provide the detail for them in the ad, most won't bother emailing or calling to ask and that equals no bids.
I sell allot of stuff on ebay, mostly pre-prohibition era brewerania or brewery advertising. It's amazing to me to buy something locally for $14 and it turns out to be someone's holy fucking grail and it sells for $144!!! For 3-4 hours per week of my time, I net about $600 to $900 per month. Pays for all my Rover goodies!!!

I know someone who bought a RR on eBay and really liked it.

My wife has a niche in buying certain things from Goodwill and selling them on eBay - netted $700+ plus last month alone!!

Are you buying a new Rover to replace?

Try to sell it locally first if you can. Sold my 95 RR 4.0se on ebay, had a hard time trying to sell it locally, got a decent price for it, the key is as Jason said above is lots of large clear pics and lots of detail in the condition and description. You will however get many e-mails asking some stupid questions, kind of a pain after a while to reply, but worth it. Good luck and hope you don't get any dead beat bidders.

Here's hoping it works out.

I've got to go back and add to the description (details). Time was tight posting it. My 3 week old daughter woke up 1/2 way through and my two year old woke up when I was finishing... ugh.

Todd

Interesting, in the description you list it as being both a series II and a series I :-) Might want to edit that (if you can)

I can't. The VIN pulls it as a Series II. It's strange. My insurance did the same thing when I listed it. I can stop if from listig as a Series II if I remove the VIN but I'd like to leave it available.

Oh, well.

Well Todd I have been trying to sell mine for about three months now with no luck. I'm just south of you in Portland and the market just doesn't seem to be there for rovers. Good luck keep us informed.

Looks like you did a pretty good job with the photos, if I was in the market, and had the money, I would certainly put yours on my list to watch! Nice truck.

Your price looks to be right on, but may be a little high for eBay - just because people are looking for bargans. Good luck.

Britt, does yours have four aux lights on front and a custom "for sale" in the rear side windows?

I saw a white Disco on 234th and Burnside I think it was, on Sunday. I flashed it with my ultra bright original 1965 Series IIA headlights... I don't think anyone noticed.

BTW, we may be planning a light Tillamook run on the second weekend in May... Think about meeting my brother and I up there if you have the time.

Ebay is a great way to sell anything including Land Rovers ! For the price of a local newspaper ad you reach so many more people for that same item. I have had good success for the most part with cars in the past it just takes a little longer to complete the transaction. I am going to probably put my 93 RRC on Ebay in the not so distant future as I would like to upgrade to a 4.0/4.6.

If I may tack on a very important silly question about eBay selling... how again does it work once people bid on your car... they don't HAVE to buy it do they (I mean, road testing, etc.)... what in real world terms is how it works?

D.,

If you bid, you buy.... that IS how it works; don't bid if you're not gonna committed to buying.

Sellers and buyers can leave feedback about each other. If you win an auction and then don't pay for it, you'll get negative feedback; if someone has a lot of negative feedback, the tendency is to not trust that person, so your future auctions will probably be unbid on, sellers have the right to refuse to accept your bid, etc.

For the record the Disco didn't sell on eBay. I didn't really think it would but my friends thought I should give it a try. Plan now (when I have free time that is... I have a 4 week old at home now along with my 2 year old) is to to list it on Auto Trader and just wait for the right buyer.

No fire sale here. The right buyer will come along.

Todd
