A bolt that connects the headpipe to the exhaust manifold fell out today. Aside from getting Land Rover replacements, has anyone found a bolt (size and thread pattern specifics please if you have) at someplace like Home Depot that works? Is it bad to go with something like that because of the extreme heat? thanks, Jeff |

Not a bolt, but a stud and nut. 8mm dia stud, 41 mm long overall. 9mm of threads on end that threads into manifold, 25 mm of threads on end that passes through downpipe flange. about 20 threads per inch (or whatever is close in metric size). The factory uses a jam nut, but a regular metric nut and lockwasher will work. Go to the metric bolt bins at your nearest NAPA store. Use antisieze on both threads when you reinstall. John |

Not sure what you mean if you mean fell out of the manifold to the Y pipe I think it is forged into the manifold. My question would be did the sound get worse? If not I would leave well enough alone, If yes I think you will have to drill through manifold. I did this and put in a case hardened bolt, knock on wood so far so good, we will see what uwharrie has to say this weekend. |

If it just "fell out" you may have bigger problems. You should check the threads in your exhaust manifold - they could be stripped. I've seen several Disco's (including mine) that either by impacts on the cats, or from poor initial installation and vibration, the threads in the manifold have been wallowed out. Also, use a brass nut. It will not loosen as a result of repeated heat/cool cycles. |
