You emailed me directly but I'll put the answer here too, as others may find it useful: P1496 is "big leak, fuel evaporative emission control system". Usually this means you removed the gas cap with the truck running. Possibly the gas cap seal is bad, or there is another leak in the evaporative emission control system. I got this code the other day as well. I recalled someone writing or saying that a loose or missing cap will throw a code. I found the cap loose, tightened it, had the code reset...no repeat as yet. |
