Hey everyone, I'm going to be shopping for a new 4x4 vehicle pretty soon, as my kids seem to be outgrowing my Jeep XJ..... Anyway, I like the Discos (I know Disco not much bigger than a Cherokee, but work with me!) Anyway I am clueless about the disco, and have heard some good things about D1s, and some good things about D2s.... So come on let me see the mud slingin'!!! What should I look for, or what should I try and avoid. Also I have figured what to look for on Jeeps and their common ailments, but what seem to be common problems with discos?? Anything in perticular I need to know and avoid??

This forum seems very resourceful, & respectable and figured this would be the best place to ask.

Thanks again,
Scott Suyeto

Scott,

Find a good 93-95 Range Rover LWB - the kids (and you) will love the rear leg room. There are plenty around LA - take a drive down Lincoln Blvd between the 10 and the 90 fwys. You'll find one for under 10k - not bad for a 50k vehicle. I'm in Torrance if you want to take a look at mine (it's not for sale but you'll see what I mean!). Depending on mileage, you can expect to do a few preventive tasks :-)

Scott,

What will be the primary use? Very important as you consider the different type vehicles. Each LR is biased in different ways.

Go with Steve's suggestion, otherwise, a 95 disco is the way to go!

Steve, Brian,

Well currently my XJ is primarily driven on the street but it has 4.5" lift 31" tires, l/s rearend and I do wheel it when time lets me! But I have to ask my brother to haul one of the kids when we go on trips (he has an XJ too by the way, but single.) But my final plan for a LR/RR is to take it out and wheel it. I don't do too much commuting I live in Gardena, and work in Redondo Beach, about 2 miles from home to work.

Anyway Steve, I may take you up on checkin out your RRC. What mods have you done to it??

Thanks for the help guys.

Scott, it was a beautiful example when I bought it. I just couldn't leave well alone:

Steve,
Hey man, I think I've seen your RR around the So.Bay Area a couple of times... Inglewood & Manhattan Beach Blvd. I always see a bunch of LR/RR at some shop on Rosecrans... Are they a RR fab shop?? Anyway you have a very nice RRC. I think you have turned me onto something.... By the way what size tire is 7.50 x 16?? Sorry not familiar...

Thanks again,
Scott Suyeto

Scott,

Don't know about the shop on Rosecrans - maybe it's a body shop for LR South Bay.

The 7.50R16 is a traditional English LR size - approx. a 210/95-16 - tall and skinny. I love 'em - very nimble in the rocks - jeepers don't know what to make of 'em :-)

97-99 Discos (D1) by then most of the problems were worked out. Before the D2's came out.
