Still trying to track down a problem in the wiring on a '95 LWB. Does anyone have a wiring diagram specific from the alternator to the gauge cluster and the EAS computer?? I'm pretty sure my fault is in the wiring, but I'm not positive. I have the electrical book for our old '96 Disco which is generally pretty close, but no suspension details. Thanks! Jason. Jason, I have a manual on disc. The charging system for your 95 lwb is not listed. It is however for a 94, but it is vauge and to me does not look complete. If you want to see it let me know and I can either fax it too you or print it, scan, and e-mail. Ronnie |

Check the tack pickup on the alternator. There is what they call a phase tap resister at that connection that can get loose and corroided. What problems are you having? Just had a customer with a tack problem in a 95 and it turned out to be the alternator |

Well, I think I found the problem over the weekend and it looks to be the phase tap resistor. I removed the piece and have no resistance from terminal to terminal. From the diagram I'm using('96 Disco) it looks like it should be 820ohms. On the side of this black piece is a slight piece of metal sticking through the plastic. From this metal to one of the contacts I get 820 ohms, but to the other terminal it's open. I then rigged an 820 ohm resistor to try it and my tach is back! The symptoms were that the tach and EAS would work sporadically. When things warmed up it would stop working all together. A first I thought it might be a cold solder joint(like the window computer issue), but it turns out to be this piece. Can this part be bought separately?? In the meantime I'm going to dig up some parts at work and make a piece that should be heat and vibration resistant. The dealer would have just swapped out the alternator and there goes another $600 - which I did last January(of 2002)!! Jason. '95 LWB. '00 Disco. |
