Will this work? The local junk yard has a 1990 RRC that I want to remove the speedo and see if it will fix my 87 inop speedo but is it compatible?

Both the '87 and '90 have a cable running from the VSS mounted on the chassis to the transfer case. The '87 has a second cable running from the VSS to the speedometer. The '90 does not have this cable; it uses the electric signal produced by the VSS to calculate the vehicle speed.

The VSS' on the '87 and '90 are the same part number, IIRC. You will need to figure out some way to jumper the output of the VSS and route it to the speedometer.

I'd venture to say you may be better off pulling the entire instrument cluster from the '90, but you'll have a new boat of problems if the wire-harness doesn't jive between the '87 and '90.

Can you do it? Sure. You'll need a wire-diagram and a lot of patience to pull it off...

I have the re-wiring diagram (got it from someone on this board). I will look for the files and post them this afternoon.
