Looking to make a new mod on my 95 Discovery. What sucks however, is that for the price of a winch, I could really fortify my car in terms of armor and protection, along with some neat extras. Yet when im out wheeling alone, the only way im freeing myself is with my winch. What would you guys recomend? |

Just about all of the time there will be someone that can pull you out however if you bust up a diff or steering componets you will be more likely to be walking. |

Anthony, I just purchased a winch for the Pig and I have just now realized the new freedom to go out alone. If I were to do it all over again; I would have bought diff guards, then a winch / bumper combo. Protective devices are very important, however all of that hardware hanging off your truck is useless if you can't get yourself out. Paul |

I think assessing conditions where you can hurt your diff beyond repair is easier than assessing whether you will get stuck or not. At least in our environment in Western Canada. I go for winch first. Ideally the protection goes on at the same time. If not defintely next. Then everything else. Just my humble opinion of course. |
