Well, I finally got my genuine landrover cd changer installed (pioneer) .. all I need now to listen to my tunes is a cd magazine.. no big deal, I call up Land Rover to order one and am almost blown away when they quote me $140 (canadian) for the bloody magazine..WHAT A RIP OFF. Back to ebay to see what I can find..the tunes will have to wait!

Does anybody know if there are other cd changer models with compatible magazines... I might be able to pick one up on the cheap that way.

I love my disco but some of the prices they quote for parts are outrageous!

Narinder,

I hope that you didn't pay a premium price for your geniune landrover cd changer. I fell over backwards when they wanted almost $400 for the changer alone. I can see coughing up that amount if the head unit was worth anything, but it's not very powerful at all. I ended up spending the same amount they wanted for the cd changer on a more powerful Alpine head unit and changer combo from Crutchfield. I digress.......in short, Crutchfield may have what you're looking for. WWW.CRUTCHFIELD.COM

I prefer a Mp3 player to a CD-Player personaly. and for the price of a genuine you can go get a sony radio tuned Mp3 CD changer. I know audio quality is less, but i like 150 odd songs per disc.

I hear you can get the cd magazine at Circuit City or Best Buy. Haven't seen them personally but give them a call.

I bought the cd changer on ebay for $200 shipped.

I was thinking about swapping with a new head unit but the stock unit and speakers are like new...but as soon as it fails I'll be going after market.

www.roverconnection.com has them for an even $30. It is a standard pioneer part so if you really want to shop around I believe the part number is somewhere in the archives.

Check the local walmart, best buy and circuit city. You should be able to find a multi pack at one of those for a much more reasonable cost. I think the pioneer cartridge is also compatible on some alpine models, so maybe check that out when searching.

Oh yes, also some of the ford SUV's use the same pioneer model, so maybe that will give you another alternative to search.

I'm suprised it is Pioneer....the one in my truck is Alpine! Circuit City has those cassettes priced at 2/$25 or $15ea.

Randy, they should be interchangeable. I had a pioneer changer in my Ford Expedition, and bought a multi pack of extra cartridges at Circuit City. Got 4 for $45. When I got the Disco, they all fit, and when Paul bought an Alpine Aftermarket, they fit his also.

Narinder,
If you are talking the 95 - 97 Pioneer unit which will have the model code CDX-M65zrv on the back of it, the cartridge is not that easy to find. I checked best buy, circuit city and all of those. They said that this one is an older model that is hard to come by. Anyhow, I have just recently purchased two correct Pioneer cartridges which are number JD-T612 on E-bay. One I got for $5, the other for $8 brand new in the box. So if you keep looking and wait a couple weeks, you can find these. The multi packs that you can get at those stores and WalMart will not work in this particular Pioneer unit. These ones come directly out the side, where the others rotate out of the cartridge. Let us know which year unit you are talking about and the Pioneer number on the back and you'll get a straight answer. I just went through this. Got the CD player on Ebay for $154.50 and then the two cartridges. Works great!! I was really surprised to even find the brackets to bolt it right up under the passenger seat of my 97. Bolted it in, plugged it in, and all worked as it should! Very cool!
You'll be jamming soon!

If you're talking about the one that I think you are, there are two on E-bay right now. One has a buy it now price of $21.99 (I have purchased from that vendor in the past, very good but higher shipping) and the other one is up to $9.38. Depends how quick you want it. Items 301966536 and 3020576654. The difference in the cartridges depends on if you need the one which has a "6" in the one circle, or the six interlocking circles. The newer ones which will not work in the earlier changer are the six interlocking circles. Hope this helps.

I bought my Disco from a used car lot and when I went to pick it up, I noticed the CD changer cartridge was missing. The salesman tried several until one fit. It said "Lexus" on it. I wonder if it came out of a Land Cruiser :-)

It looks like Item # 2412170797 on Ebay.

Hope this helps,
Santo

I bought a brand new one on ebay tonight for $24.
The cd player I have is out of a 98 Disco and takes the rarer style cartridge...so with any luck I will be jamin soon!

I saw the lexus one on Ebay too...it looks like it will fit as well.
