First I should state this is not pertaining to "Rrrricky" (my D2) :-)

Please, excuse my ignorance on the matter (red face) - I'm just curious, and would like to learn more about this - Hear some opinions. This is pertaining to another vehicle with a little over 80K miles on it: For instance, on a D90 (I know this is Disco tech, but I think this does not strictly pertain to a D90). ... No problems on the radiator yet, but figured may be time to consider having radiator flushed, recored, replace hoses, etc. ... The prospect of replacing the radiator with a (custom made) 4 core radiator has been brought up; probably not much more $, (if not less) than replacing with a stock radiator.

So far, I've heard a lot of folks with off road set ups, like to run these 4 core radiators (offroad) around here because of higher temp conditions. I heard they are popular with some of the D90 folks around here (?)

Other opinion has been that these are strictly (?) where standard operating conditions are only/always higher temps. So ... when they run cool, the fuel management system (?) doesn't run properly, and it burns waaaay too much gas. Not worth it, etc.

Anyone out there have any opinions/experience with these?

Thanks Clarence, I'll look it up there.:-) I tried a search there yesterday, but I probably mispelled or something. ... Guess I should have posted my ? in the D90 section.

I actually thought about this too, Kim. I was thinking of having an aluminum 4 core rad made. Seems a great upgrade! Especially when you look at the cost of a new one, seems like a no brainer.

I can't think of a disadavantage. I have a Rangie in the shop now that has what appears to be a stock four core radiator, and have seen others stock, or stock appearing.

My personal experience has been that new is less expensive than local recore work, but obviously, this varies by region as I hear of some tremendous deals some folks claim to have gotten.

Peace,
Paul

I had to install a 4 core radiator to help solve some cooling problems in my 95 (amounst other things) but then it is supercharged.
If you decide to replace the one you have at a latter stage it would be a good move. You might have to change your thermostat for a higher heat range though.

Thanks for the feedback :-) - Sounds to me like an interesting prospect - Maybe a little further down the line. I'm thinking new as opposed to re-cored also. And, yes, I was wondering about the thermostat. As I mentioned, no history of any problems yet. Maybe just have it flushed out for now (?) ... (hehehe)Of course, it's technically not my truck, so I can't make the final decision. :-( Oh well ... I've got the feeling some other things may come first anyway ...
