My 96 D1 misfires and sputters while cold. When it warms up its fine. Only very rairly going down the road has a slight skip. It only does it when it sits for more than a few hours or over night. I've replaced plugs, fuel filter, plug wires. Does anyone have any ideas. When it warms up it has plenty of power and runs good. I'm at a loss. |

Fuel injectors or o2 sensors? |

I don't think the O2 sensors start controlling mixture until the engine is warm (5 minutes or so), so that rules them out. Before that time, the fuel temperature sensor and engine coolant temperature sensor (among other things such as MAFS) provide input to the mixture. Use the search function just above "edit profile" (not the one in the banner) to look for what problems people have solved by replacing these. Also could be leaky fuel injectors; again, search for that. Good luck. John |

I'm happy to report I found the problem. The vacum hose that goes to the fuel pressure regulator was bad. It was cracking and dry rot....provided some vacum but not near enough. New hose now runs absolutely perfect. |

Its on the dirvers side of the engine close to where the throttle cable is. And just in front of the coil packs on that side. Hose is maybe 3 inches long connects down on the side towards the back to the intake. It was dumb luck that I stumbled on this, I just started feeling for vacuum hoses pulled this one off and it had the same kind of rot that the cruise control hoses had. |
