Hi,

I am new to this forum so I do not know if a similar question has been posted already. I would like to find an inexpensive way to mount 235/85s on a Disco I in combination with a 2” lift.

I thought about spring spacers, but that would probably take away from downward shock travel, right? Can mounting new, longer shocks (Pro Comp ES 9000s were my first choice) in combination with the stock springs result in spring dislocation? What does keep the springs in place anyway?

The other approach I thought of, was the cheap bastard lift option (I like that name). For some reason the CB seems a little out of fashion lately, though. What lift in mm would result from mounting the rear springs in front and what would be a good choice for the new replacement rear springs – I should mention that I would rather like a good articulation instead of a stiff ride. Does OME provide shocks that could meet my requirements?

Last but not least at all, what is the more cost efficient solution?

Lots of questions, I know, but so far I have not found anyone here in Germany who could answer my questions adequately. Thanks for your help!

Wolf

OME Springs - $70.00 US Dollars Each ($280.00 total)

OME SHOCKS - $75.00 US Dollars Each ($300.00 total)
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/ome/indexshocks.htm

Tires - Purchase locally. That size can be purchased in the US for anywhere from around $85.00 each to $150.00 each. ($500.00 @ $100/each)

Total upgrade would run around $1,080.00 using above items.

I would go with OME if it were me. Tires, there are so many options that I would go with whatever you fancy that is available locally in Germany.

Good luck at any rate.

Hi Wolf
How are you going to get around your TUV test?
I don`t think a 2" lift is ging to impress anyone in Germany!
Why do you need it? you can`t go off road there!
You can fit 235/85R16`s without lifting, look in the tech section.
But even the TUV will not allow different tyre sizes unless originally fitted by the manufacturer.
Best of luck with this one, you`re gonna need it.

Wolf,
I agree with Greg. I just completed the OME switch over about 2 weeks ago and love the change. I didn't get in any hurry doing the work and it took less than four hours, using regular handtools. Might check with Pangaea Expeditions on prices, a little cheaper than what was listed from the other source and Nathan who owns the place is very knowledgable. BTW, OME's gave me about a 2" lift and the 235/85's another 1 1/2".

I'm thinking about similar mods, anybody got any pics of their disco's with the 2" lift and 235/85's?

Joel,
Here's a quick shot I took right after I finished the install.

CB lift is fine. I have a version of it on my disco and have helped others do the same. The main issues with it seem to be either the stock rears are shot (front too low) or people don't like the ride (too stiff).

"For some reason the CB seems a little out of fashion lately"

I think the reason is that OME vendors loose money on it :-) tongue firmly in cheek.

Its been hashed to death in the archieves but if you only have money for one set of springs do the CB lift, its only 45 minutes to swap in OME fronts if you don't like it.

Ron

I just got the Green Monster springs and OME Shocks and I love the way it drives and the solid look and feel I have gotten from the truck. Fairly easy job to do by your self - not easy, but definately uncomplicated - can't really mess it up unless you drop the truck on your head while trying to jack it up.

The first web site is my Rover web site.

The second is the place I bought my springs from - any lift up to 4" for $239, I think. Read the review on my seb site and a few pictures. I have not got the new tires on yet, so the stock size looks bad...
