I reciently put a 1 and 1/2 in lift on my disco 2. Its got an ARB bull bar and Warn XD 9000 winch on the front. I'm not sure what kind and size of tires to put on it. I've heard that Bridgestone Duellers were pretty good. I want something that I can drive on the road but are decient enough for mudding and trail driving. Another problem is that I have 18 in. wheels on it and I don't want to buy new wheels. I've just begun to go mudding and trail driving. And I'm loving it. Some input would be great.

Davis Reed

P.S. My e-mail is Skimpyboy@aol.com if ya'll sent me some of your ideas that would be great. Thanks!!

There's really not much choice for an off-road 18" tire. I did find the Michelin XPC 4x4 available in the 255/55/18 size at Tire Rack, but that's pretty much it. Everything else seems to be performance oriented.

I know you don't want to buy new wheels, but I want to point out that the shorter sidewall on the 18" wheels make you more prone to tire and wheel damage off-road. 18" tires aren't the most inexpensive to replace either.

Whaz up Skippy,
My DII has 18 in. comets on it and you'll feel like poo when your washing your baby off after a wonderfull afternoon of wheelin only to find you, or I've, skuffed the hell right into them. I'm thinking of sellig mine before I kill the finish and buying some 16 inch rims. Way more opptions and lots less $$$.

Thanks guys,
I've been trying to avoid buying new wheels but it seems that it's unavoidable. My rims got scratched up a little the first time I took it out and that's been buggin' me. The options are minimal and the tires are expensive for 18 in. wheels, so I'll probably have to buy new wheels. Thanks!

How much are a set of 5 16 in. wheels that are good for off-roading?

Davis,

Pricing depends on whether you go with steel or alloy wheels. There was a thread about a week ago regarding the availability of steel wheels for the D2. Take a look at that for more info on the steel wheel option.

As for alloy wheels, they run about $260-290/each. You can try Atlantic British, roverconnection.com, etc. An even better option may be to search the For Sale/Wanted topics. 16" wheels seem to come up fairly often.

I got rid of a few sets on www.roverconnection.com, they should be fairly easy to trade. Go with Goodyear MT/R.

Nitto also has a 33x12.5x18 AT tread, but you'll need a few inches of lift for those.

keep in mind that you can probablly pick up some used 16" wheels, sell the 18" ones and turn a profit.

Davis,
My D2 has a 2" lift, ARB bumper with the Warn 9000 and I'm running Cooper Discover S/Ts on 16" wheels. One thing I found out the hard way is that the extra weight of the ARB requires heavy duty shocks and springs ... I'm running EMUs all around and the overall performance with the Cooper tires is outstanding. A bit noisy on the highway, but then I just crank up the tunes and forgetaboutit.

Sorry Davis I know nothing about any 18 inch wheels except that they tend to get sold around here for more than the 16 inch ones

Thanks Carter,
I'm trying to figure out what kind of wheels they are. I know that they're alloy but thats about it. I'm gonna sell them and get some 16' wheels because finding tires for the 18' has been a task plus they're more expensive and mostly performance oriented.

Davis,

255/70-18 Michelin cross terrian suv (32.2" tall). Just put them on my DII with the OME lift. Everything is going well so far. Although, I still use a set of AB steel wheels for wheeling.

Ryan,
How long have you had your tires and do they work well? Do you have the OME 2" or 1 and 1/2" lift? I've got the stock alloys that came with the Disco. How much are a set of 5? Have they rubbed at all while you've been off-roading?
E-mail me at Skimpyboy@aol.com.

Thanks,
Davis Reed
