The ignition will not turn on my automatic 96 Discovery. When I put the key and try to turn it, it will not budge. I have tried locking the steering wheel and messing around with the shifter to no avail. The key is bent slightly, could that really be all that is wrong? Any help is apprieciated. |

yea that could be. I know on my 95 i got another key made and it would unlock the doors but it would not turn in the ignition. So that is what I think. |

I tried straightening the key out with a set of pliers and tried it in the ignition, but still nothing. Any other ideas? |

The steering wheel is locked, while trying to turn the key (not forcing it to bend again) try turning (wiggling?) the steering wheel back and forth and it should release. Chris, The reason your new key wouldn't work is because they probably made it from the old one which was worn and rounded instead of having rigid/jagged edges...can never make a good duplicate from an old key. I don't think the door locks are as precise as the ignition therefor enabling a less than exact key to work. |
