Hey,
I have a 96 discovery. I have a loud sqeek sound coming from the front right side. I am pretty sure that the pad is wore down to nothing and is metal on metal. The thing is i am in a spot where i cant get any new pads. IS there anything i can do to get me home. I have a long long drive to get home and have no access to pads. Is there something I can do so i dont ruin my rotor or anything else. PLEASE someone give me some input!!
Thanks Discoweb!!
Sean

If is just a sqeek and you can't tell if they are worn down then it is really fine. Mine have always sqeeked all the time, and was unsure if it was alright but i have had no promblems and have been sqeeking since i got my new ones.

no, mine have been squeeking all the time also, but now there is like a metal grind!!! Its alot louder!! And sounds TERRIABBLE!!!!
The pad is for sure gone. It even squeeks when I am driving, with no braking. It goes away when i touch the brake.
Thanks
Sean
But i need to get home and its far, so i dont know what to do

If the pad is gone and you drive it you will destroy the rotors. simple. the car weighs too much to drive around with bad breaks. But at least if that happens you will have a good reason to put on some new DBA Rotors and pads. :0

Sorry I dont there is a way to do it without damage. Napa should be able to get the pads, it just may take 24 hours.

If you have a long highway trip ahead of you, you should be fine. One thing though... feel how thick the front 2 roters are. i rode mine with a grinding sound for a month of heavy driving... even offroading... however, i did have to pay $330 for new stuff, but you should be fine going home... shift into lower gears so you dont have to brake as much... and if all else fails... and your caliber is leaking fluid and the brake goes to the floor, use your Ebrake... good luck

ouch i don't think you want to be forced to use the E-brake. It is not safe at all and I had to once when the dealer cut my lines and it you have to be very careful not to pull it too much.

I am in YellowKnife, they have internet here yes. But I need to be back for work and I have to leave tonite. And those who kow where Yellowknife is know that its in buck f*%k nowhere. So i guess that I am driving home with the loud grinding noise and maybe have to replace rotor and stuff. But thanks anyhow.

Also, when I brake theres not smooth braking, it feels as the rover is bucking slightly. And the grinding noise is constant, ALL the time. But when I brake it goes away.

like i said... see how thick those rotors are... if they're too thin, they can crack if you brake hard... it would be better to not go to work than drive your car into a tree... or another car

Clamp off the rubber hose to that caliper!

You could blow out the caliper and loose all brake fluid.

You will be down to 3 wheels but it is better than what you have now.

why not stop at a goodyear or midas or something like that, those places should be able to do the brakes in an hour....
