If you have a D2, Expedition Exchange has it documented here: http://expeditionexchange.com/disco2brakes/ |

I did a search on the forums for "D1 change brake pad" and found the following link: http://www.people.vcu.edu/~ahang/ You might also want to dig a little into those search results. There are probably some very useful tips in there.

Jude, The web site uses frames, so the link takes you to the main site. If you choose the "Land Rover" link on top, it will take you to a list of technical articles. "Brake pad replacement" will be one of the links from there. Or: http://www.people.vcu.edu/~ahang/brakes.htm -ema |

Fortunately, it is fairly simple to change front brake pads. I found the hardest part was taking the tire off and putting it back on. If the rotors are in good shape, the pads are just held in place with a small rod with a spring and cotter pins (should replace these 4 small cotter pins that keep the rod and spring in place). Pads slip right in after pushing the caliper pistons back for room. Don't even need to remove the calipers. Pads are readily available at most auto part stores, inexpensive also. |
