I saw 2 trees get cut down by one group in URE this past weekend. I wasn't very happy to see total disreguard for Treading lightly. Plus it is a federal offense. They were darn lucky a ranger wasn't around. If they keep it up they will ruin it for all of us. I hope they don't ride there again !
I also don't think that stock or slightly modfied vehicles should be on the MOST DIFFICULT trails. Cutting live trees and going off the trail is NOT the right thing to do. I was disgusted with what I saw these people do in our forest.

I don't know. They were with a group that was coming down from Kodak Rock. I was with a group of Jeeps and we all pulled over to let them pass. They appeared to be mostly stock. What they were doing on a most difficult trail escapes me. If they were properly equiped with winches, tires, etc they probably wouldn't have gotten into the situations that they did. They needed to be on the easier trails.

Well, I didn't see any of this, but I hope someone has some names or plate numbers so they can be banned from the club. That's completely unacceptable.

But yes, the trails were VERY slippery. Best time I've ever had there.

We kept the wife's stock Disco to Falls Dam, no damage done although we were hung on a berm for a minute or so before Paul reeled us back off of it... got on down w/ no more incidents (well, at least we did, but I later heard that the folks in the following group had some challenges to get on down...)...

I still can't believe the looks the 4-wheelers gave us when they say the kids in the back of the Disco... even Abby in her car seat! :-)

But yes, it WAS slippery.... sure made it interesting compared to what it was before when it was all dry...

Cool thing is, I'm getting the wife hooked, she's getting more excited about it after each event...

I went to Uwharrie and I went to prom! Both were a blast! Here are some of the pics:

Camille and I about to go to dinner

Camille and I in front of the G-Wagen

Me doing the Sprinkler for my English teacher

Me doing the sprinkler

Jason Micheals and the H2 Eater about to eat some mud

Jason Micheals in the H2 Eater about to eat some mud

I need lockers, it was a lot nastier than it looks in the picture

Me Spining trying to get out of the mud...Wish I had a locker!

Everybody had to winch up this hill

Camille getting winched up the hill that almost everybody had to get winched up

There weren't as many vehicles there as there were last year, but it was still a lot of fun! It took me 4 hours to clean my Rover yesterday, and it is still dirty...

Wow Will, y'all got y'alls trucks cleaned up! I just parked my 109 and drove my TR8 to prom. Besides, it was a good thing I left so early, my truck broke down on the way home!

Hope y'all had a good time. Yea, I hate to hear about people cutting down trees for no authorized reason. I would like to know who was responsible.

This week also destroyed all of the rumors that you can do everything at Uhwarrie in a stock truck because you CANNOT!! Also, where there is usally a stock truck, there is usually a novice driver and this just adds to the problem.

But I must admit that I did like seeing all of the new commers to the event, but this weekend taught everyone a thing or two about 4 wheelin'.

Damn Will... You go BOYEE!

Sorry Ryan and I never made it up there. I was pissed I'm having all kindsa problems with my truck, and today I think the engine may have given up the ghost.

We'll have to hit up Uwharrie sometime this summer once I get my Disco repaired and sold, and something else to wheel.

Max, the TR8 is a pimp ride man, hope ya had a good prom too. How's your sis doin?

Max,

The only cleaning the G-Wagen got on the outside was the rain on the way to my house. The back half was still covered. People kept asking why it was so mudy:-) I got my Dad to clean up the front two seats so we wouldn't get our clothes dirty. What happened to your truck? I hope it wasn't to bad.

Jon,

I hate to hear that about your engine...Maybe you are destined for that diesel Defender. Neither you, Wilcox, or Broyhill showed up like last year!

I can confirm that all the trails there CAN be run by a stock Disco 1. I have done it myself. This is not to say that the hardest lines were taken every time by any means nor that they were run in the most difficult of conditions, but it can and has been done. I've done it over a few trips up there, but it was usually when it was pretty dry and sometimes dusty.

John,

I was in that group that you guys waited for at the bottom of the hill. I can answer your question as to why we were on that difficult a trail: We got split up from our lead half and weren't that familiar with the trails. Some went left, we went right. If we had known that trail was going to get so tough, We probably wouldn't have tried it. But once you got so far, you were somewhat committed to ride it out.

I personally didn't see anyone cut any trees, but I did see one that had been cut by someone in our group. I agree with you that it was flat out wrong. I think we need to do a better job of educating each other better on trail etiquette and stress 'Tread Lightly' more. I didn't see alot of that done over the weekend. More thorough pre-ride briefings would have helped, but all the rides were informal and non-structured.

OK fellow CROC guys, what have we learned here? If we are going to have our club name on an event, we should probably tighten it up a bit. Otherwise it could become a free-for-all and give us a bad rap.

J. Carter,

The TR8 is a sweet ride, but the A/C didn't work and that tux was burnin' up on the inside! Sorry you couldn't make it for the event. I thought you got your truck sorted out, but from the previous post it differs in idea....

Sis is doing good. She got the disco just in time for it to blow a head gasket. Its been in the shop for the past, like month. But it should be ready between 1-6 weeks.

Will, you went to prom in a muddy truck. That is great. I thought about doing that to the 109 but the freak engine trouble in conjunction with being tired meant it wasn't going to happen. Also my date had expressed dissent to going to prom in the 109.

The engine, I don't know. It just died. Some sort of fuel problem that fixed itself about 30 minutes later. The locals had fun though, at least 3 people posed by the truck and got their picture taken. They all said it was, "pimp".

Brad, yea, like 6 months ago a stock truck could make it through with no issues. I agree with you there. But after raining for 6 months straight the trails are very slick and stock tires have trouble. Of course this is just my opinion, we are having a Uhwarrie trail day this Saturday, if you want to come find out if it can still be done, then I would very much like to see it. That will tell me that Land Rovers still kick ass.

Joe,

Sounds like your group forgot the basic item of communication; whether FRS or CB. I led 4 different rides this weekend and all of them started out with a group chat before heading out. The 2 biggest things covered were communication and if you cannot see the guy behind you, then stop.

It's difficult (But Possible) to run a structured trail run for different abilities due to the fact that UNF is open to all people, even when there is a specific vehicle event. For example, on Saturday there were 7 Rovers coming down Falls Dam with 5 jeeps behind them and all of a sudden you have 3 'extreme' S-10's coming up the hill with the lead driver (Joe Dirt) telling everyone to get out of his way. To make matters more exciting, Joe Dirt was carrying a 400 lb Forest Ranger in his S-10 and therefore expected all of us to bow down. So little situations like that can create chaos and ruin a perfectly fun drive through the forest.

Want to make it better next year? Then volunteer to help out and start the planning process a bit earlier. I thought Mary Anne and her husband did a fine job getting the ball rolling so late in the game.

LOL! After you had tugged us, Paul, we moseyed on down Falls Dam. Well, that lead truck whipped around a corner in front of us, stopped in the middle of the trail, everyone jumped out and ran around the corner, except for that ranger who told us to back up to a wide spot.... I just stuck it over a bit more w/in ear shot of her so I could figure out what was going on... the 2nd one had a trailer-load of cobbles, and they were filling in a hole, one we had driven up through less than an hour earlier. She tried to make it sound like it was eating trucks, and that they were there to keep us from "hurting ourselves", lol... my wife kept trying to yell at her "What hole? I just drove up and didn't see any holes!" but I tried to keep her from antagonizing her...

Once they finished, they came on by... the driver of the first truck, as he was passing, told me to tell the next driver to watch his trailer as he passed me... they knew you were ahead from there, I made sure of that...

Anyway, I still don't think it convinced the wife to let me get a winch for her Disco, but, she's gonna be more than glad to let me get one for the Series now.... :-)

Paul,

You are exactly right. Our pre-rides were non-existent, and communications weren't very good. That's the root cause of the problems we had. Our half of the group basically got left behind, which should not have happened. Communications broke down. Sounds like your rides were conducted well, though.

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking anyone with CROC specifically. I firmly believe that unless you are willing to help, don't sit on the sidelines and criticize those who make it happen. I am only offering a suggestion for making things better next go-around.

Mary Anne did do a great job given the time she had to organize it. Everyone, myself included, had a great time.

I also would like to volunteer to help for next year's event if possible. I only had the chance to participate this year.

Joe

Paul--- I heard you had a little fun w/the local white-trash "Joe Dirt". Adam told me it was a good time. Saw some video from the weekend, looked a little challeging... even though I heard the park rangers had a vehicle search every hour.

Well Nick, Everyone has their own group or hobby and that is fine. But Mr. Dirt had a bit of an attitude since he was "hauling" around the Forest Ranger. Funny thing was that Joe Dirt had a huge sticker on the side of his truck with a web link for S-10 Extremists. Check out this site for more fun:

Can't we all get along?

Besides the Chebys, there's a Sami, a Cornbinder, a Ram, an Xterra, and YES, a D1! A D1 on the S-10 Extremist pages! LOL!!!
