Hello All, Newbie here so be gentle as this forum was recommended.. Evaluating a 2000 Certified Series 2 SE7 overnight, it has EVERYTHING on it, rear air, ACE, Performance Pkg, 18"'s, you name it.. I really like it, drove it around town put it through its paces, tested all buttons etc.. However, it has this whine sound when you first put on the accelerator, as you increase speed it gets higher in pitch, at first thought it was the AC or something, no big deal, then got out onto the interstate to check it at 70. It was howling loud, not the tires 'cos noise stops when I let foot off accel, doesn't appear to be wind either.. I'd really like to make this official but the noise is troubling. Is this normal? Thoughts etc appreciated. It has 30K, still fact warr plus the 12K cert warranty, but still don't want to be caught unaware... Thanks in Advance-

I think that's "normal" transfer case or transmission whine. But I'm a D1 owner...I'm sure a D2 owner will chime in here soon. |

I have a 2000 D2 and I get a whine noise at high speeds not lower. But it is normal to hear a whine noise at high speeds in a D2. If its that loud then maybe you might want pass up on it. Another thing is that the ACE system makes noise as well. I would not know because I have a SD but my friend's SE does have ACE and I hate the noise it makes. Just my .02 |

Does the whine increase with engine RPMs or with road speed MPH? If it is RPMs it might just be the cooling fan. That sounds like a jet taking off. IF it's proportional to MPH then it could be a lot of things. -jeff |

The DII makes a lot of drive line noise. The engine makes some strange noises to, mostly from the top end. Listen carefully for ticking, valves can be a problem. But as you said you will warranty. My advice would be to stay away from ACE, just one more thing to go wrong. The 18" tire are expensive to replace and if you plan on taking it off road, ( I hope) you will be better off with 16". Good luck, Matt |
