I'm planning on having extended brake lines made for this weekend's installation. Does anybody know the specifications for the fittings on the ends? I need to know if they are a JIC or MIX fitting and the size.

Failing this, does anybody have a set of old ones I can have to use as an example for my hose maker?

Bill?

Peace,
Paul

Are all four the same gender? I thought the rears were male to female, while the fronts are male to male.

With this, I can go ahead and have them made up ahead of time and be good to go (of course, they will probably sit in a box for months like the two remaining tie rod ends, swivel seals and etc.

Peace,
Paul

Paul - I honestly cannot remember on the rears, but I think you're right about the rears being MxF. I'll check tonight. All are same thread (10x1) though.

Paul - both front and rear line sets are male x male. I checked last night.

Thanx Bill. Do you have a source for the fittings? My hydraulics guy has indicated he does not stock such fittings and I don't really wish to destroy my existing hoses to make new fittings from them.

Peace,
Paul

Paul - sounds like he's running into the same problem I had - finding extra long 10x1 straight thread males with the correct seat taper set up to swage onto 03 teflon was a pain in the ass, so I just resorted to being joe-consumer on this one.

sorry I'm not of more help.

Bill

Thanx Bill, they've suggested shearing the crimp collar off and brazing a new one on and then going to the Teflon/Stainless.

I guess I'll have to let the professionals do what they say is right.

Peace,
Paul

Geez - for all that trouble, you might as well buy the premade lines and you still get to keep your stock lines as spares. :-)

The price is still less than half the cost of the premade lines. If I break a stainless sheathed teflon line, I have bigger problems...

Peace,
Paul

Peter:

As do many other vendors.

At the risk of inciting another flame-fest, I have a very good friend who works in a hydraulic shop, the hydraulic shop is owned by the husband of a county council person (more friends of mine and the family) and I can have them made for less than half of what is charged by other vendors. If I could find the fittings (admittedly, I haven't looked very hard), I could depress my cost even more.

As you well know, I regularly reinvent the wheel and have a very difficult time paying folks for what I can do myself-if I could find the hose and fittings, I could make them up here at the plant as well for even less $.

Peace,
Paul
