Some asshole took off my drivers side mirror last night. It looks like it as another SUV and they got to close to my truck and clipped it. Luckly it looks like they only got the mirror. I have to take it down to the dealership today for an estimate. There will be some real "Shock and Awe" if I ever find out who did this. If I had done this I would have at least stopped and left a note. Since it was parked in front of my house they could have at least knocked on the door. When did people stop caring? UGH!!!!!! I am SO PISSED!!!!!!!! |

My guess is they were drunk, and might not even realize they did it.... -L

My guess was that they were drunk too. I'm really surprised that I didn't hear it though, one of my bedroom windows faces the street where it was parked. But I have a cold and took some meds last night to sleep better. Strangely enough, my cold medicine did not list lossing you side mirror as a side effect. =) |

Those pesky trees have been responsible before, however, this time I think our wooded friends are free of blame. |

do you live on a busy main street? or on a relatively quiet neighborhood street? if it's a less-travelled resi street, then check your neighbor's passenger side mirrors for damage.

It's a residental street, during the day it is relatively busy, but at night the traffic dies down.. It was hit at night. Plus my neighbor and I are very cool. He would have told me. |

go for a pleasant walk down the street. a few years ago, someone dinged my girlfriend's white car and left some black paint. sure enough, there's a neighbor way down the street with white paint on his black fender. human nature is to run & hide when you screw up. then it's too embarrasing to come forward, or maybe they're just cheap scumbags. a knock on the door and a statement of the obvious usually yeilds positive results. good luck. |

Back in high school a friend found some red paint on his new mustang. Well he was really pissed so we cut class the next day to scour the parking lot looking for his missing paint, and planning on doing god only knows what when we found it. We did find the red car with black paint on the bumper but unfortunately it was his girlfriend's . Lets just say the final two weeks of that relationship where pretty interesting ones. |

Blue, agreed. Several years ago, I lived in an apartment complex. My girlfriends maroon car had some teal paint on the newly set dent in the front quarterpanel. The friggin moron parked next to my girlfriends car with a fresh dent, and some paint missing on his car in the quarter panel and oh....he left his electric bill, OPENED, on his front seat. I shined the flashlight in there, got the address, and walked over to his apartment in the complex. (at this time, I didnt have my concealed carry permit yet, so I ALWAYS carried on my side). The OBVIOUSLY drunk perp answered the door, and after a very brief, and very animated discussion, his girlfriend came to the door, during which they apologized, invited me in and I got their insurance information...along with a statement from him that he didnt remember hitting the car, and a statement from her that the guy didnt even remember leaving his buddy's place, which, incidentally, was within walking distance of his apartment. Dumb fucker. Anyway. Sorry it happened. Check Ebay, or LRX for anything you might find. Bummer, man. Good luck |

Okay, Now I'm getting super pissed. I took my truck to the dealership, Tom Williams, here in Birmingham LAST Tuesday to get my mirror replaced. The service guy, I won't post his name yet unless he pisses me off again, said he would fax me an estimate. This was at 1:15pm by 4:30pm I still hadn't heard from him. So I call, he gives me an estimate and say that it was too late to order the part today but he would have it overnighted and it would be there Thursday (5/1) but then he would have to send it to the body shop to be painted. This confuses me, black truck/black mirror, why the paint? But what do I know, so I say okay. He said he would call me when it comes back from the body shop and I could swing by and they would install it this week. Okay it's Wednesday, over a week since I first let them know. I haven't heard from them, so I call again. He say that the mirror is in but he still has to send it to the body shop to be painted. I said ummmmm...weren't you supposed to do that last week. He says I just now found out that it was here. This is getting to be such complete BULLSHIT. Where is the service in the Service dept? That is it from now on I am only having warranty work done at the dealership, they can kiss my ass. I'm taking my business else where or I will just do it myself. |

Dealerships do suck. I had one put an oil pan gasket in wrong twice. I brought the truck back a third time because it started knocking. They said that water got in the engine. I asked them if it could be due to the bad oil pan gasket that was leaking and they told me no. They also wanted $6k to replace the engine, so I took it to a local shop, they told me the dealer was wrong. On another occasion they over tightened my lug nuts and I broke 3 of them trying to rotate my tires. I had to argue with the dealership to get them to fix it. In the end I move on from that Fix Or Repair Daily and got the Defender Best move I could have ever made. Man just thinking about dealerships gets me aggravated.

My mirror was sheared off the first week I owned her. She was parked on a narrow one way street. The thing is that kills me is that I had always taken the time to fold the mirror in after I closed the door. The one time I forget to do it I get screwed. If I recall correctly... it cost me about $300.00 to get a new driver's side mirror installed and there was absolutley no freakin need to paint anything or take the thing to body shop. You are getting hosed. |

Hi Michael Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I have a set of door mirrors for a 98 discovery in my garage if they are of use to you. They are not electric, just unheated normal mirrors. I am not sure if you can salvage the bits if necessary. I am in the UK, but if your interested, I can post to you. Get back to me if you want. Pete S. |

Peter- Thanks so much for the kind offer, but I have already gotten the mirror put on at the dealer. ExRover- As I found out after my last post when the dealer called me back, they have two types of mirror, matte and high gloss. All mirror come matte, but they can paint them high gloss. WHY? Anyway, since the passenger mirror is matte, that means that it didn't need to be painted. Which means that had the service guy been on the ball I could have had my mirror replaced last week. It boggles the mind. Oh well, since it didn't have to be painted, it came out to be $103.00 less then the estimate, and I now park on the dead end alley behind my house. $103.00 to have the mirror painted, that makes me laugh(only because I didn't have to pay for it) |
