Well, I finally got my HD steering components done. Last year I made a dropped draglink and panhard out of 1" mild steel tubing. Needless to say, after one day on the road they were discarded. Don't underestimate the forces that these components have to withstand. Anyway, the tie rod and drag link are made from 1.25" solid SS bar. The panhard is 1.5" solid SS bar. The panhard is mounted forward in the stock brackets. This allows me to run a straight bar without hitting the front diff cover. It's close (It'll scrape the mud off), but just clears.
In the first photo, you can see the tie rod just below the front axle. The steering stabilizer has been relocated between the tie rod and axle housing, and is protected by the tie rod. |
