It starts sometimes and other times it does not. There is no clicking in the starter or any noise when the key is turned. I checked the battery and the starter and they are good. Can it be the alternator or the htiming system..any ideas would help. please email me at polofella26@hotmail.com or write here....thanks!!! Glen

Check your fuses under the hood.

I would check the starter, sounds like your starter solinode is going bad. The timing system would only be a problem if you could get the truck to turn over, same with the fuel system. If a fuse was bad you would not have an intermitant problem. I think you might be in for a new starter. First check the ground and power leads heading to and from the starter, even a small bit of corrosion could cause a ground break that may not let enough power get to your starter all the time. Check that first, then if all seems well pull the starter and clean out the brushes and the solinode. Also bad battery connections could lead to the same situation. When it doesn't start, what are the conditions around it? Cold? damp? What happens, one try nothing then it starts?

Go around to the front or the back of the truck, look in that area, if it says "Land Rover" or "Discovery" or "Range Rover" you are probably right - it doesn't start all the time.

Glen,
I had the same problem. It turned out that the battery to starter wire was caked with so much corrosion that it was not getting enough spark. Also, the connection was loose at the starter.
