I hear water sloshing around on the passenger side of my 01 Disco. Is this common? Where should I look for the water?

First thing, you might want to "tickle the nipples". Crawl under your Disco, and on either side of the transfer case (maybe transmission, I cant remember right now), you will see 2 rubber drain valves (the nipples) that are supposed to let water from your heater venting drain out however, they usally clog and you need to get under there to give them a pinch, massage, or tweak. This should be enough to clear the blockage and allow the water in there to drain out. Dont wear a good shirt when doing this and keep your arm out of the way or you will fill your armpit up with cold smelly water. Oh, dont park your face directly under them too. Chris

The passenger side one is easiest to find, get a flashlight, and crawl under from the rear of the passenger side front tire. The transmission will be on your right, follow that wall up and you should see the little rubber nipple. It's a cone of rubber sliced into 4 pieces, if you cant find it I'll snap a picture. |

When do you hear water? Typically around start up? Could be an airlock in the heater. When engine is cool and check coolant level in expansion tank |

When I brake and accelerate. It sounds like it is flowing back and forth. |

I noticed water sound a few days ago after initial start up on my DII, sounded like it flowed more when I was accelerating, could that be a airlock in the heater ? |

Like Chris said, check your coolant level. That sloshing sound can also indicate low coolant levels. |

I have a coolant leak, When I hear that sound I know it is time to top off the radiator. Sounds to me like you are low on coolant. |

Jim, Just had the same exact problem. Dealer replaced radiator....claimed it was leaking. Funny I hardly ever drive the thing and it sits in a garage. which by the way is dry underneath. Oh well the sloshing hasnt happened since. I do believe that I was low on coolant though. So thanks LR for the new parts! (warranty) -Tony D |
