The other day I parked at work, and noticed coolant under my truck. Pop the hood and the POS plastic radiator cap had come apart at the top, leaving the threaded insert still in the radiator. Nice, so I order a brass cap from Roverbiz and get it next day. While trying to back out the rest of the old cap, some plastic bits do fall into the radiator, not so nice. I dig out all of the loose bits I can see... Get in and drive, all is well for a while. While at an intersection I look at the temp gauge and it starts rising. Pull over and shut it down slowly open the overflow tank and coolant comes out for a bit. Get back in and drive, needle rises again. Now I crank the heat up, and the temp drops back to "normal". I'm wondering if some of the plastic got stuck in the gate of the thermastat? Any takers on this one?

you know what, I just did the thing that I dislike the most, I asked a question before I really thought, or did ANYTHING to resolve my situation... Howsa bout I flush the radiator first then check the thermostat, and then if the problem persists, i'll post again..

Jeez, I sort of flamed myself there, long story short, I flushed the radiator once, cleaned out the overflow tank, which by the way had what looked like fine sand in the bottom. Now all is well.
