Hi
I have a 98 D1 with a 2" OME lift, it has just started vibrating, but not big, I have checked all propshafts and it looks OK, so I am looking for further problems.
I also have a small clunk when turning right under power, not all the time, just now and again.
I have checked all track rod ends and again looks OK?, could this be a dreaded CV on the way out?
and could this cause the small vibration?
I will have a go this weekend.
Also will a D11 front propshaft fit a D1, or will I need spacers?
Many thanks
Pete S.

How exactly did you 'inspect' them? Did you remove them one at a time, lock the cdl and take it out for a drive to see if the vibe was still there or did you just look at them?

Do you still have a your stock front shaft i.e. no double cardan front shaft? If so, the ujoint close to the transfer case is prone to wear due to your lift. It will start with increased vibration, then you will start hearing a squeak at low speeds. The shaft might still feel tight and look ok, even if the joint is getting worn.

The clunk you are hearing is most likely a worn and/or loose bushing, most likely on one of the radius arms, or the panhard rod.

One thing about taking the shafts off one at a time and driving around is that they can both seem great when only one is on the truck but, when you get them both back on it has the problem again. It's not a bad idea to do but, it may not tell you any thing.

Hi thanks for all your help,
I have stuffed a pry bar and tried to physically move all the UJ`s, I have put the front onto axle stands and pushed/pulled all over the steering parts, again nothing too suspect.
Which leads me to my next question, I have been offered a D11 front propshaft with three UJ`s, Will this fit a D1 or will I need spacers?
Thanks
Pete S.

Pete,

You'll also need a D2 tcase front output flange to use the D2 front propshaft. It simply replaces your existing output flange.

Pete,

The D2 output flange comes with an integral mudshield, so all is well. A new oil seal would probably be a good idea if you're already in there though.
