I have a new noise coming from the transfer box. I did Area 51 last week. Sometime after, my transfer box, when decelerating, at between 40 and 15 miles per hour, makes this sort of raspy whining noise like something spinning on a bearing is dragging and whining in my transfer box. Not associated with main transmission at all (disconnect it and nothing changes). I've tried switching through all box modes, diff locking on and off, reversing, etc., to shuffle things around in there, but no change. When I disconnect (go into N) the noise continues, etc. I also tested it in low, and alas, NO NOISE. So it seeeeems to be in the NORMAL GEAR RANGE of the transfer box somewhere...help? ps - it's a 97 D90 Auto with 46K miles. |

How do i move this thread over to the Defender area...these disco threaders don't want to talk D90. Language barrier I guess. |

Sounds like it might be one of the bearing on the T-case. I'll trade you d90 for disco and you can let me deal with the problem |

Suggest you drain and refill the t box and see if any pieces come out....Not sure I like the sound of what you have here and having bits of metal floating around is NOT condusive to long term mechanical health |
