Have a 1999 disco I. Runs fine for the most part. However after driving on the highway for a while it acts up from time to time. I can drive along for 20 miles with no probems if I dont slow down. However if I go down a hill or someone cuts me off and I have to take my foot of the gas it starts to miss when I put my foot back on the gas.

The solution is to pull to the side, let it sputter for about 10 seconds and then I can drive away. I can speed up the process a little buy dropping it in neutral and tapping the gas twice. I dont now why but I feel like it has too much gas rather then to little.

I tried replacing the VSS but I dont think that is the problem as it still happens and the cruise seems to work fine. Others told me if the VVS was bad the cruise would turn it self off from time to time.

In another thread someone mentioned a fuel pressure regulator. I was thinking of trying that. Or possible a throttle position sensor. Does that make any sense?

I bought one of thoe OBDII software programs that hooks to a laptop but I have not tried it other then idling in front of my house as my laptop batter is going bad and only lasts for a few minutes. Is there anything there I shoudl look for?

Check the vacum hose on the fuel pressure regulator, mine acted up too thats all it turned out to be. New hose, now runs perfect.

i agree with the vacuum hose. mine would shut off whenever i would engage the clutch to stop. the hose was collapsed because the pcv valve thingy was dirty and clogged, so it sucked itself shut. i un-crimmped the hose for a temp fix until i bought the 12 dollar hose. bed careful pulling the pcv thing out or it will break

If your fuel pressure regulator is bad you'd be able to notice it with a fuel pressure gauge, and some measurements.

I had a faulty regulator and when I'd shut the car off the pressure would bleed down to 0 in about 5 seconds. It should stay about 5 psi below what it was while running. So if you're at 40 when running, it'd be about 35 when off.

It could still be the regulator though. I pulled my injectors and the fuel rail is rusty as hell. It could have some rust floating through it, clogging it up.

Check the hoses, and try to diagnose it with the gauge.
