Guys, I have my first Land Rover, and I have a problem that I can't figure out. On occasion, it will die...this has happened both at idle and at 50 mph. After it dies, it will crank, but will not start. I can wait 10 or 15 minutes, and it will start back up. The dealership had it for 3 days, and it never quit on them. After I picked it up from them, I drove nearly 300 miles before it died again. I have changed the fuel filter. Does this sound like fuel pump? HELP ME! I have no confidence in the vehicle right now.

My 95 D1 would start fine, then when it got hot it would sputter, lose power and die. As long as the truck was cold it was fine, but as soon as it warmed up it would die. I tied everything. The final result was the fuel pump was going bad. Check the pressure of the fuel lines when the truck is cold and warm. My truck would show way more problems if it got warm by driving then just sitting and idling. The reason my pump was bad was from crap building up in the gas tank and mucking up the pump. I had to have the tank flushed, the fuel lines flushed, injectors pulled and cleaned and a new fuel filter. I would check your fuel pressure first. Also check your distributer cap for cracks and check the rotor. Check the plug wires, plugs and all wire connections to the idle air valve (stepper motor) ETCS engine temputer coolant sensor, FTS fuel temp sensor, also check the emission or breather lines and vac lines. I would guess your problem is the fuel pump, but checking all the ignition parts and fuel and air intake systems will help rule them out. I could have found and fixed my problem 3 weeks sooner if I just bought a fuel pressure gauge first, oh well I learned. If you haven't done a cap rotor wires and plugs in a while, it wouldn't hurt to replace them, cleaning the stepper motor wouldn't hurt either. Check the tech section under FAQ's for that process. Good Luck
