I have a 96 disco. It is green with a white top. the first owner who worked at the dealer said it is a "defender edition" disco. he claims only 40 were sent to US. Other people at other dealers claim it was made for a photo shoot. it makes sense because the shade of green is only available on defender. does anyone know about this?

Sounds like BS to me. If there were a "Defender" edition i'm sure the dealers would be sure to know. That probably looks cool though. Pursue the question through your original dealer and see what he says to back it up.

Not that I am knowledgable about these things, but I would be weary on the "rare import" idea.

Rather, I would suggest one of the following:

- Dealer special for pure markup sales. If you look at the Honda S2000 when it first came out, Honda dealerships would add a pin stripe prior to sale and charge the customer an additional $2,000.00 for the "rare / special" combination.

- The vehicle was used for a special event / movie / publication and therefore painted for it.

- The vehicle sustained damage, and this was the repair completed.

- Or you have a neat special defender edition in which 40 were only made. :-)

I would check the VIN and look for damage.

If it is indeed 1 of 40 made- Awesome! You have one rare Disco. If it turns out to be just a paint job- who cares as long as the damage has been repaired and you like how it looks. I would really like to see a picture of that though!

Damn, I've got a Conniston Green '95 Disco -- if I had the top painted white, would it be worth a couple of thousand bucks more? Actually, that might look good.

You have a "Bald Eagle Edition"!!!!!!

OMG I have never seen one. Alyssa once saw one and the people she worked with who were there when they were new confirmed they do exist. Apparently they were originally intended for the mexican market and due to lack of demand they were diverted to the US. I thought they were 95s but not 100% sure.

what green? No D90 green was not also found on some discos (conniston was D90 94,95,97 disco 95, BRG was D90 and disco 97, willow was 97 D90 and 96-99 disco)

Ron

PS Bald eagle is just what i call them it is not a real limited edition or anything but there were a few that came that way

It sounds like bullshit to me however you've come to the right place to get your answer. Someone here should be able to clear this up.

Any special edition LR that I have ever seen has been branded with a name on it. Is there anything different other than the color? If not, big woop!

Whats the paint code sticker say under the hood?

Confess ever since I put limestone painted wheels on my truck I've wondered what a limestone roof would look like......

the roofs are separate pieces on disco's, correct? and fairly "easy" to remove? so instead of painting, find a white truck that's had an engine fire or bad front end damage, and just swap roofs. no idea if this would work, but it would seem to?

Ron, they used Conniston on the 98 Discos too. However, I wouldn't like mine with a white top.

Mark, hope you have a sense of humor, but with a white top and green sides, all you need is a hood black out and you can have a Land Rover version of the Partige Family! :-)

Sounds like if the paint is original from the factory, then it may be rare, or even a special edition. But probably not really worth any more than any other special or dealer addition truck.

Hi
I ran that VIN through LR EPC and it comes up as an invalid VIN#
Probably just a funky paintjob!

If this were a limited edition "Bald Eagle" truck for the Mexican market, wouldn't it have the lower compression 8.13:1 heads to deal with the low octane gas down there?

its in LR internally as coniston green, no mention of roof color or special edition. Only option listed is manual trans. your radio code is 14152.. if you ever need it.

Mark,

Did you ever take a picture of your truck? I'm thinking of having some paintwork done on my 95 Coniston D1, and would love to see the white top.

Actually you have given me an idea. My 95 d1's roof's clear coat is peeling off and I have the classic rust on those alpine windows. My truck is red, so getting the faded paint red color matched is going to be a bitch and expensive. I wonder what a cream roof would look like on there? Did any of the defenders in red come with a alternate color roof? What about a big union jack painted up there?

"Did any of the defenders in red come with a alternate color roof?"

97 Monza Red Station Wagons had white roofs.

I have seen those Discos before, though I cannot remember where. The white roof thing was something LR did, albeit in smaller numbers. I wish I could provide some useful insight here, but all I can give is a vague memory.

There are many ways to get a Disco in England. Panel van styles quite often are requested with white roofs, I'm sure one could special order a white roofed disco from the factory.

It is equally plausible, however, that some denghis like me thought it'd be a good idea to paint his roof white.

Cheers,

Kennith

I wish I could see one, but I like the idea. Maybe I'm corny but the white roof might look kinda cool on a red disco, well at least different. Time to head to wally world for some cans of krylon ... hehe

Hi Kennith
I drive a disco Panel van, and I always spot others, and I can honestly say I have never seen one with a white roof.
I hate washing the roof and if this was white, aaaagggghhhhhhh.
My commercial often has aluminium ladders up top, and they leave a right mess when it rains.
The union jack looks a bit silly, respray the same colour, you will not regret this if you ever sell the truck, one mans meat etc.
Just my 2pence worth
Pete S
