Heard muttered under DiscoMan's breath: "A diesel. My kingdom for a diesel. Then I would've shown these chumps up"

It seems the guy lost his nerve and stopped. Steet tires? What was he thinking? |

I remember a post about that Disco owner. I believe he was seen looking through his manual prior to the plunge into the water. Checking maximum wading depth or insurance liability limits I would guess. Hopefully it's dry by now and the lovely organic aroma is gone. S- |

I hate to indict myself but I had a similier moment. It was pretty stupid but fun...Why do those two always end up hand in hand? I got through pretty well but didn't have the momentum or the traction to get out. I even gave it two trys, nope... Not enough machine...but getting me that far was impressive. Oh, etc in that situation sucked bad, I lost needed juice and wore my breaks unnecessarily. The first time I have been disgusted by etc. Next time I'll shut it off. http://www.robisonservice.com/eventpix/mud_run3.asp -Chris -Oh, by the way that BUB Big Ugly Bastard with the look of shock and awe is me right after I got pulled out.

LOL If only these yahoos would write about all the other times Disco drivers have flat-out embarassed people at Hollister. Hollister is a playground for Whiskey Tango lincoln-lockered trailer toys. Were it not for the proximity to civilization, it would not be frequented so often by Discoveries. Now, onto that misinformed D2 driver... Get real man! This person deserved the lambasting he got for trying to drive the stock 18 inch rimmed D2 through the mud. |

Hey lighten up on the guy. I tried that same trick a Hollister with my '96 D1. Stock tires, no lift, big giant diving plane... I mean spoiler on the front. Got maybe 30-40 yards. Pictures are in the Trails/Events...Hollister3 section. (Can't seem to copy the URL) My old boss used to love the second picture (lots of action). The only water/mud that got inside, came through the open drivers window. (Word to wise.) Without that spoiler, I'm sure I would have gotten oh ten or fifteen yards further. -Reed |

Personally, unless the Disco owner was talking shit prior to the attempt, I don't think he should be flamed. If the guy wants to try it and has a good attitude about getting his truck yanked back out then it's all good. I think it's more telling about what these people are like to go up the page and read the first part of the story (everything above the QuickTime logo at least). He mentions some people bypassed some log obsticles, but doesn't make a big deal about that. Oh wait, it was a Jeep and Toyota, so it's ok. It's not like it was a Rover. Then he goes on to discribe a classic example of how a recovery can turn into a trip to the hospital (or morgue), and says "I only saw this guy drink 1 or 2 MGD's so I can't explain what his problem was." Wow! Hook me up with these people...they know how to four-wheel!! Lots o' alcohol and lots o' mud!! -Lawrence |

Well, to each his own, obviously, but it should serve as good notice that these things aren't "go anywhere" vehicles as advertised. A good example of this is the Tommy Hilfiger attired gentleman who tried to drive his 2002 HSE Range Rover through one of the gigantic deep mud pit off West Trail, then claimed that his Rangie had a design flaw when he sucked mud up into his air and fucked up his MAF, amongst other things and couldn't drive his messed up Rover out of Hollister Hills SVRA. What a friggin' moron. |

I hear you. I did that run last year with my DII and Robison Service. Couldn't make it down with my 90 this year. Wish I had. Looks just as muddy as it was last year. I guess you have your work cutout with gutting that interior now. |

Its still a little damp under the padding. I could probably get away with letting it dry out but the fear of rust gets the better of me. Next weekend the carpeting comes out. The question is should I put it back in? -Chris |
