Out of the box...J**P. sad, but true. As a multi-purpose truck (offroad/luxury/camping/...) LR rules.

Stay away from the wranglers (or CJ's for that matter)... I've had far too many relatives and friends killed or seriously hurt in them, both onroad and offroad. Onroad, they are one of the most dangerous vehicles out there. Keep a roof over your head.

If I were in a wreck I'd prefer the jeep over something like a miata.

Don't worry too much about safety myself. I commute on a Ninja everyday ... so even if I was driving a Miata or an MG it would probably be safer than a bike.

If safety was my primary concern I'd avoid the roads altogether and order a bubble from Michael Jackson. ;)

Realistically, just like riding a motorcycle, the key to survival in a convertible is to AVOID the accident regardless of who's at fault.

There's only two guarentees in life ...

might want to compare D90 to a Wrangler. a little more fair. Disco and Wrangler are built for different uses. Wranglers are certainly very capable off road vehicles, but try taking someone along with you and all your gear on an extended trip. ain't gonna happen. try that in a Disco.....it will happen. and much better at it. :-)

All a Rubicon Wrangler is, is a shopping cart with MT/R's on it. Land Cruisers compare to Discos so take a LC with stock Diff lockers and compare that to the shopping cart! No one will ever take a locked wrangler over a locked Fj-80 unless they are on crack! Think about it!!!

Jared,

I've had both a Miata and two jeeps (90 wrangler and 80 CJ-5) and I will tell you that the miata is safer in nearly every regard including most rollovers (granted a lifted jeep would crush a miata). But believe me, it takes a lot to roll a miata, however jeeps are another story.
