Guys, thanks for all the advice a couple of weeks ago. This past weekend, I picked up a S&W model 669 in stainless steel. It's a pretty standard 9mm Single/Double Action pistol in mint condition. I got it for a song and have already tried it out at the range. I've got to say that I am very pleased.

My question now is how often should it be cleaned? How many rounds between field stripping? How many rounds before full disassembly? Any information -- and links -- on good gun care and maintenance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

brian

ideally you should clean the pistol after every session. a typical session for me is about 100-200 rounds. pistol cleaning should only take 5-10 mins. a few passes with a bore snake, and some wipping down with a cloth and q-tip and some light oiling. any disassembly beyond std field stripping is generally not needed.

a good rule of thumb is to clean your guns at the range (if possible) esp with rifles - as that way you can store then the safe when you get home.

keep safe

I clean mine after every use as well. If they are stored in the safe for long periods of time I take them out and re-oil/silicon them as well every so often.
