My Anti-Lock light has been coming on intermittantly, and the ABS has been activating on dry pavement. I searched the archives, and it seems that pulling the fuse is the solution.
There are 3 fuses for the ABS. Which one do I pull? I took out the 5 amp in sattelite 1 fuse box and the problem seems fixed, but the light is onn all the time now.

Is there a real fix for this problem that doesn't cost a bundle?

Greg,

Pull the one under the hood. If you pull the other fuses it will set your check engine light. I don't think there is a way to get that abs light turned off short of jabbing it with a screw driver.

I just pulled the one under the dash and I've never had a problem with a check engine light. I'll give up the abs if it's going to keep randomly engaging :-)

My check engine light is on anyway. The one under the hood is a big one, and supplies power to the ABS pump, right? This is the one I should pull?
What do the others do? Anyone know?
All will set off the Anti-Lock light, right?

How do I fix it. I mean really fix it so it is like it is supposed to be.

maybe you should call a shop or something. my anti lock light is on, but i the computer reads a no fault. it has a relay that tests it when you first turn the engine on. and after 100k miles, it has done alot of testing and gets stuck. some day when i do the other one million things i have to do i might change it. so if ur abs is working properly dont worry about it.

It's not working properly. It activates for no reason.

Greg,
Have you checked your ABS sensors at the wheels? They have been known to back out which causes the ABS failure you described.

Just wait a while longer, it will quit working like everybody else's!

Mine has never worked. Incommunicative ECU...

yeah - ABS problems solved by pulling the 5-amp fuse. And no, pulling the fuse does not trip the CheckEngine Light/mils.

To solve the problem of the lil ABS light, just find a lil sticker and cover it up!

I pulled the fuse under the hood and then pulled the bulb out of the ABS light b/c I was tired of looking at it and it needed to pass inspection (BTW, all of this is allegedly if any of you work for Va DOT or State Police) Pulling the instrument panel is fairly easy and doing that took all of 10 min total. If you want it to work right... well I have no knowledge on that, I personally am not big on ABS on my truck so I never considered trying to figure it out.

What kind of pedal feed back do you get after pulling the fuse? I hate abs you don't feel conected to the truck, and they flat suck if you gotta haul it down in a hurry on dry pavement.
Mine work fine, but I'd still like to bag 'em.

Bill, pedal feedback is better after you pull the fuse.

Pull the fuse from the hood, all other fuses inside the truck are for the ABS but not for the pump, the pump is what is causing the ramdom kick back of the caliper. If you want it fix for good, go to the LR dealer and have a test done it cost only about $40 and they will tell you which sensor is bad, they run anywhere from $295 to $75 for a use one. Also the ligth inside is fairly easy to remove like Ray mentioned. Two screws in the front pannel pull the entire unit off, becareful because it's cheep plastic and things break off easy, then four other screws two on each side and the pannel comes up and out. Make sure you label the other connections or just visually look at them before you remove them it is very hard to get them comfused but always take precautions. ABS or no ABS the brakes will work, the ABS is mainly for slippery surfaces (Rain, Snow, Ice). So it is your chooise fix it or run car w/o ABS. I ran mine for almost a year before I got it fix and had no problems

Guys,

I am thinking on pulling the fuse also. the ABS light has been on for a month now. the problem is that when I start the rover, the TC light and the hill decent light go off for a split second and then come back on. I am assuming that they come on because of the ABS light. the strange thing is that, while they stay on at all times, the two systems seem to be working fine! I was sand wheeling last weekend and I went down a few steep hills with the hill decent and no problem. the TC would activate as usual...this has gotten me very confused. I am just thinking that if I remove the fuse for the ABS light, I will affect the other two systems! I do not even know that these two lights are on because of the ABS light!! any toughts?

I've had luck crawling under the rig and reseating the sensors by hand.
