I just got rear ended last night by an acura TL and now my bumper's crooked out of shape. my D1's still drivable but half of the acura's engine compartment was compressed. for some reason my left front headlight popped out and this is the 2nd time someone's rear ended me (goddamn DAY DREAMING DRIVERS!) I was wondering if this means that the impact had bent the frame or crumpled it a bit? should I worry about the insurance company inspectors ignoring it? I just came back from wheeling when the accident happened and it was covered with dirt so I'm worried the pictures the police took wouldn't show all the damage... should I wash it before I take it in for the appraisal or leave it as it is? anyone have similar experiences? and the damn thing is my disco was in the shop for 2 weeks for repairs on fuel pump, o2 sen, etc and I just barely got it back for a week and now it looks like it'll be in the shop again! *GRRR!* |

I got rear ended today good fun. I say wash it and make it look as clean as you can. IMHO cars that appear to be clean etc. etc. etc. would get a better appraisal than one that was all dirty and what not. sorry to hear about your accident |

Where are you? Key thing is to get the right body shop to look at it. Call the ferrari dealer or Mercedes dealer and ask them who they use. Also call the rover dealer and ask them. Tell them you want a high estimate. Ron PS headlights fall out all the time, it does not necessaryily mean anything. |

I work at a body shop and I can devinitively say you should wash the truck, inside and out. People will treat your truck the way it appears you treat it. As for your question about the frame being bent...I can say with 99% assuredness that your frame is not bent if your bumper is just crumpled. It takes serious forces to bend a frame. Often times cars can be basically destroyed up front with only minimal frame damage. If anything I would believe the headlight coming out represented the transfer of energy through the truck without being dissipated until it reached the headlight, thus showing the frame would not be bent. I think you could get a new headlight out of this though, along with a few other goodies. If you want to go aftermarket with anything (ie bumper) then just tell the guys at the shop you wanna do that but to have them write it with a stock bumper and ask them to give you the difference back and you'll come out ahead. good luck. Hi Brad While I am sure you are correct, I recently totalled a civic that pulled out into my path, my front left wheel smacked him really hard and I was doing no more than 20mph, my chassis had bent where the front left swingarm moved back into it. So I would say get it checked because they are not as tough as people like to think! I had someone rearend me and I could see no damage and said to the guy it was OK, on further examination I had a cracked lens and a twisted bumper. Best of luck Pete S. |
