After dealer suggested terraclean engine cleaner and new air intake gasket no improvement. Engine will sometimes idle at 2000-2500 rpm, then will act normally. Dealer said that if these measures offer no improvement then serious engine work may need doing(pistons) said he's seen this type of thing before... I'm not convinced especially since this inconsistent problem started immediately after undercoating and engine cleaning. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Is this a 96' or newer Gems discovery? First, check to make sure that your throttle cable isn't sticking. If not, pull the idle bypass valve (stepper) out of the intake manifold and clean it. Also, make sure all air hoses are clear and not cracked. After that, leaky injectors could be the problem. |

98 disco 1. Could getting engine cleaned thoroughly have caused this problem. |

Jordon, I had the same problem and had to take mine to the dealer. They threw the workbook on it and adjusted the base idle. Seems to be working fine now. not that expensive. As far as the piston stuff....I don't think so LR! |

I had this problem when my fuel injectors started going bad, the car would idle really high and them come down, usually this happens as the extra gas in the chamber from leaky injector needs to be burned up?? Best of luck to you
