I can't get my remote locks to work. I replaced the battery in the key fob. The owners manual said to press the lock button four times while close to the vehicle to reset it, but that didn't work either. Any other suggestions?

Hey Paul, sorry to say to you and anyone trying to program a remote on a d1 newer than a 95, the tech procedure won't work. Any of the 2 button remotes need to be taken to a dealer and programed by the testbook thing they have. That's 96-current. The tech procedure on this site is in reguards to single button remotes on 94-95's. Paul, check your hood switch connection I read that can pop off or corrode and it could be an issue.

Funny thing is my 95 does the same thing, I kind have just given up ever to get it work, someday I'll take it to a dealer, but for now I just use my key (the horror!) But it annoys Emma . After we get our remotes to work, we need to figure out how to make cheap bastard kegging systems, I want one now, works slow so I have been reading home brew sites and think kegging is for me. :-) I see it now, four different brews on tap in the kitchen, I don't think I'd every leave home again, even for work...

Andy, here's the best kegging site I've found on the web: http://www.kegworks.com/index.html. You could open a speakeasy in your basement. I need to start kegging to. I'm tired to taking bottles to someone else's house to use their dishwasher.

Hey Paul,

This is a bit weird but definitely works with my remote. I turned the egine ON then pressed the LOCK button 4 times, you won't notice any indication or anything that the remote responds to it. Turn the ignition OFF then press either key while inside the truck and it should work.

I do not know if this is the right procedure or will work with everyone but definitely works with mine.

That's an interesting procedure- How did you ever come up with that sequence? I'll try it first thing tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'm off to the dealership. Anyone know how much that costs to get reprogrammed?

I asked mine for shits and giggles and they said around $40 to get mine, which is the simpler 95 one. So something around that

Well Ynik, I tried your fix, but it didn't work for mine so I took it to the dealer. He said I had a bad remote. When I originally replaced the batter I put it in upsite down. That might have hurt it.

So $114 for the remote, and $40 to program it. Ouch.

My remote (95 d1) discharges its batteries very frequently....ie less than a month...
Has it worn out and in a permanent short?

Yup - dealer charged me $40...ripoff for a 3 minute job. They did wash my car, so I figured I paid about $5 for the remote and $35 for a mediocre car wash.

This key remote thing had me pulling my hair out a couple of months ago.(I posted here and got great advive) Rang dealers, replaced batteries, and still had trouble getting into the truck.

As a final resort when I couldn't get the truck to unlock with family waiting in the rain, I bashed the remote against a metal street post ( I know quite unorthodox) but the bugger hasn't let me down since. Works better than new.
Go figure?

Greetings,

Have a 98 D1 and lost my keys with the remote attached. Went to Ebay and found the remote and paid $20 using the BUY IT NOW option. Recvd. the remote in the mail and took it to the Land Rover dealership in Fort Worth, Texas. They programmed it for free and sent me on my way smiling. Now that's service. By the way, I bought my Disco from the Dallas dealership and they wanted to charge me $110 for the remote and $60 to program it. What the hell?

Same story as Antonio...

Got for free an old remote that I had to open and resolder a bit, threw a battery in and drove to Land Rover Flatiron in Superior, CO. They reprogrammed it for free and taught me how to do it for the next time...
