Ok.. reading through the old messages I picked up the following to program the remote: http://www.discoweb.org/faq/remote.htm 1. Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked, hood switch depressed. 2. Carry out instructions 3. to 9. within 8 seconds. 3. Switch ignition ON. 4. Switch ignition OFF. 5. Lock doors. 6. Unlock doors. 7. Release hood switch. 8. Switch ignition ON. 9. Switch ignition OFF. If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and LED will light. It is now possible to program two handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU. This must be carried out within two minutes. 10. Press and hold down button on first handset until dash LED flashes. 11. Repeat instruction 10. for second handset. The LED will extinguish if both handsets have been programmed correctly. ... ok, but no luck?! A few stupid questions: - Depressed hood switch. I assume this means that the hood is closed, and I need to (during the according step) pop the hood via the hood latch? And make sure it is closed during the initial steps? The depressed term boggles me. - Ignition ON/OFF. So, I turn the key until the dash all lights up, and then turn the key to the position that it gets ready to be pulled out? - Lock and Unlock doors: I simply push down on the drivers door lock tab, which locks all doors. I then pull up on it to unlock all the doors. ... I do this, and the only thing I am accomplishing is making myself look like a fool. Also the Disco doesn't seem to like the real quick ON/OFF thing. Help, maybe I am reading it wrong. Thanks, Mike

You need to open the hood and get someone to hold the button down out there. Then at step 7 tell them to let go. I did the same several times just unlatching the hood did not work on mine. Or you could try to tape it down and run out to pull it off at step 7. But you are gonna have to be real fast. |

The other thing you may want to check that caused me all kinds of headaches was that the switch was really dirty and did not have a good enough connection to work. A little WD 40, a check of the connections, an attractive wife, and it was good to go. ...it was my wife that was able to coax the guys at the LR dealer to do it for her for free after my repeated attempts to fix it at home(and one trip to the dealer for a quote of $130)failed miserably. |

Can your wife come to my house? I have a remote to program. Just kidding. If you have a 1996 is there any way to do it at the house? |

One other thing...those instructions will only work for '94 and '95 Discos - the old one button remote. Good luck! |

Bill Howell- Everywhere in my reseach to program my remote, you must go to the dealer on 96 years and newer. It requires the techbook thingy to do on those remotes. Sorry. Mike |
