everything has been going great, and then BAM! two new problems. first, my '96 now overheats when i turn on the air conditioner. no coolant leaks anywhere, but excessive water condensation under my truck when i park it and run into the local 7-11. i'm in the process of flushing/replacing the coolant and thermostat. someone let me know if there's something else i should look at. problem #2: i've always had sporadic idle problems. it may run great for a few days, and then one day it'll die at an intersection or something. starts right back up, so more embarrassment than anything else. but as of the last couple of days, i have to give it gas upon start-up to keep the engine from dying. it will idle in park at about 600 rpm's, and in drive at about 400 rpm's. runs fine after all this, but i've never had to give it gas to keep it started before. for diagnosing purposes, i replaced the stepper motor about a month ago. also, i've been getting o2 sensor codes and check engine light for months now. and i'm about to take care of that problem too, but i've had so many expenditures in the last half year (long, nasty divorce finalized, remarriage, honeymoon, other repairs, blah blah blah) that this really had to be prioritized down the list a ways. now i'm trying to get my baby back into shape. and it appears i have a lot of catch-up to do. |

Kevin: Don't bother trying to flush the coolant, you need a new radiator. Replace the oxygen sensors and let's see what happens. Try oxygensensors.com-if you know how to solder. Good luck, hope things are looking up for you, I've had years like that, but it gets better. Peace, Paul |

new radiator? ai-chee-wah-wah! i'll price that out later. i'll still flush and hope for the best for now, grrroooaan. i can solder, so i'll order those o2 sensors in a few weeks when i can financially breathe again. thanks, paul. you've always been helpful. |

Kevin have you tried reverse-flushing the rad?? It has worked for my heater core. Quick question...do you have the part no and/or where you bought your stepper motor?? |

i bought my stepper motor from napa. i don't readily have the part number, but i believe i still have the box at the house with the old stepper motor in it. i will try reverse-flushing as well when i get to it sometime between today and this weekend. work has been crazy and i haven't had much time to do anything as of late. |

I had similar cooling probs and had the radiator rodded for $60. Pretty easy to R&R, just messy. No problems since. A shop should be able to flow test it then rod or recore as needed. Cheapest I saw new was ~$550. |
